I love the convenience of doing things online; ordering things, buying groceries, booking appointments. If there’s anything I can do online as opposed to over the phone or in person, you can count me in.

So what about birth control? Do you really have to go to your doctor’s office, wait in the waiting room, and go through a physical exam just to get birth control? Not to mention the time you then need to spend waiting at the pharmacy and on your subsequent refills. It’s annoying, to say the least.

Luckily, times have changed and we can now get birth control prescribed online by real doctors and delivered right to our doorsteps. When I discovered this, I did a little happy dance! Here’s everything you need to know about how to get an online birth control prescription.

Where Can You Get Birth Control Online?

The Telemedicine industry is exploding right now, you can get treatment and medications for a variety of things online, including birth control in all forms. I personally use NURX for online birth control and have been nothing but pleased with their service, but there are many other options out there, too.

How Does It Work?

Online prescriptions work in the same general way that in-person ones do in that you’ll provide your medical history information and then“meet” with a licensed US doctor who will review your chart and prescribe a formula that works for your situation and needs.

Most online providers will give you the option of pills, patches, rings, etc. I use the pill because it works well for me, but it’s nice to know that I can switch things up if I choose and I won’t need to go to my doctor.

Once you have your consultation and you choose your birth control, it gets sent right to your door. No pharmacy lines or waiting. This is probably my favorite part of the whole deal. Plus, they’ll automatically send you more when you need a refill, so you don’t need to sweat it when you realize you’re on your last pill and you forgot to send in your refill to the pharmacy.

Do You Need Insurance?

Nope! But if you do have insurance, your copay will likely be $0 or something small. If you don’t have insurance, most providers offer low-cost options that fit your budget. For example, Nurx offers certain brands that cost as little as $15 per month, which is fantastic, in my opinion. No one should be denied access to birth control due to a lack of money or insurance.

What About The Morning After Pill?

You can get that online, too! Again, most online birth control providers also offer emergency contraceptives that can be delivered right to your door within a couple of days, saving you the embarrassment of having to go to the drug store or call your doctor.

Final Thoughts

Getting birth control online is safe, easy, and convenient as long as you use a reliable provider with real, licensed US physicians. Doing so can save you lots of time, money, and frustration. Additionally, you’re more likely to stay consistent with your contraceptive when it’s delivered to your door on auto-pilot.
