If you’re like me, you have a handful of your favorite go-to snacks that you keep on hand for times when hunger strikes. However, it’s important that we’re intentional about the snacks we’re reaching for as some of them can do more harm than good when it comes to reaching our goals.

I’ve been a fan of protein bars for years, and I’ve tried many in my pursuit to find the ones that I actually enjoy. Let’s be honest, not all protein bars are created equal. For anyone who’s ever bitten into a hard, chalky, gritty bar, you know what I’m saying. Plus, a close inspection of the label of some of these bars can leave you with your eyes bugged out (hello, high sugar content!).

We recently received a question inside our FB group regarding One protein bars and whether or not they’re healthy. So, we took a deep dive into One Bars from the perspective of our registered dietician to bring you the answer to this question and more. Enjoy!

What Are One Bars?

ONE Bar (limited edition) protein bar

High in protein, low in sugar? Yes, Please!

A One bar is a high protein, low sugar snack bar. They are gluten-free and convenient for on the go.

Packed with protein, One Bars make an excellent pre-workout, post-workout, or in-between-meal snack.

They come in over 15 different flavors and offer a guilt-free, high protein solution for those who are, understandably, protein bar obsessed.

Whether you have difficulty meeting your protein needs or simply want a convenient, protein-rich snack, a One Bar is a relatively healthy option for you.

Ingredients: What’s Inside One Bars

healthy ingredients in ONE bar

The main ingredient? Protein!

The primary ingredient in One Bars is protein. A One Bar contains the right amount of protein to benefit your body. According to some research, our bodies can only process a certain amount of protein at a time.

You don’t want to overdo it on protein during one sitting, or it may not be beneficial and excess may become stored as fat.

The protein in a One Bar comes from a blend of both whey and milk proteins, making it off-limits for vegans.

However, if you are vegan, One Bar still has an option for you.

The new One Plant Protein bars are vegan-friendly, but they contain less protein.

Fact Check ✅

Original One Bars are gluten-free, non-GMO, and contain a blend of fiber, protein, and fat to fuel your body and promote satiety.

One of the downfalls of the One Bar is the sugar alcohol content. Sugar alcohol is a type of reduced-calorie sweetener commonly used in protein bars.

Although most people do not experience adverse effects from sugar alcohol, people with a sensitive stomach may experience abdominal discomfort and GI issues after consumption.

One Bars also contain many ingredients, so if you are looking for a natural protein bar, One Bars may not be your first pick.

Ok, So Are One Bars Healthy For You?

This is what it looks like outside the wrapper, but is it healthy?

Many protein bars on the market have a ton of added sugars and a nutrient profile similar to a candy bar— you want to avoid these.

One Bars are low in sugar and packed with protein, making them a much healthier option than a traditional candy bar.

But, Do They Taste Good?

That bite was yummy!

One Bars come in various flavors ranging from birthday cake to blueberry cobbler, and with over 15 flavors offered, it can satisfy just about every taste bud.

Unlike many of their competitors, One Bars do not have the strong aftertaste caused by sugar alcohols.

For an added treat, all One Bars have a dense layer of frosting and a softer cake-like texture.

If you are looking for a great tasting protein bar, One Bars are at the top of the list.

Are One Protein Bars Good For Weight Loss?

one bars for weight loss

Not only do One Protein bars taste great, but they are also an excellent option for those looking to lose weight.

Protein has been studied and shown to improve metabolism by causing the body to use more energy to digest protein, this is known as diet-induced thermogenesis.

In addition, studies have shown that those who consume a high protein, calorie-restricted diet can increase fat loss.

One Bars work great as an afternoon pick me up and help you maintain satiety until your next meal.

By snacking on high-quality protein bars like One Bars, you can avoid extreme hunger and binging later in the day.

One Bars also contain fiber to promote fullness in between meals.

Exercise should always be paired with a healthy diet for best results, this is where protein bars can help you.

After a workout, you should consume a mix of protein, carbs, and fat to help repair muscles and support recovery by rebuilding glycogen stores.

They are a convenient option and provide a pretty great combination of these macronutrients without spending the extra time cooking a protein-rich meal.

Alternatives to One Bars: What Are Some Other Healthy Protein Bar Options?

one bar alternatives

Shown in this image are alternatives to ONE Bars, such as G2G, Healthy Eating, and BUILT Bar.

If you’re looking for some One Bar alternatives or other similar protein bars to give a try, here are a few of my top choices.

G2G Bars

g2g bar - alternative to one bar

Imagine a soft, chewy cookie with a hearty texture and the perfect mixture of sweet and salty flavor notes, but with 18 grams of protein that’s virtually impossible to taste. That’s what you can expect with G2G Bars.

This small business creates refrigerated protein bars that taste like anything but a protein bar. I eat these all the time. Add a cup of coffee and you’re in heaven.

Built Bars

Built Bars can best be described as protein bars that taste like a candy bar. With a real chocolate exterior and a smooth, creamy texture on the inside (think nougat), these bars are the perfect guilt-free treat.

This brand has gone through a ton of changes over the past year to increase the quality and consistency of their products, and I am very impressed. I adore these bars and often eat them as my end of the day treat.

Healthy Eating On The GO Bars

Last, but not least, Healthy Eating On The Go Bars are a newer find for me, but since discovering them I have been obsessed. These bars are similar to the G2G bars, but are a little less sweet and have fewer calories per bar.

They are highly satisfying, delicious, and have undetectable protein inside. Coming from a very small company in MN, I love supporting this business and watching it grow.

Try Healthy Eating On The Go Bars.

Final Thoughts: Are One Bars a Healthy Protein Bar For You?

a healthy protein bar by one bar

A One Bar is an excellent addition to your routine to provide an extra protein punch and support weight loss.

They are high in protein, reasonably low in calories, and low in sugar and may help sustain hunger.

In addition, One Bars can be a great option right after a workout if you don’t have time to whip up a meal.

They come in various flavors and can satisfy a sweet tooth while helping meet your health goals.

One Bars are not the most natural protein bar on the market and contain a long list of ingredients, so if you are looking for an all-natural bar you may want to stick with a product with fewer ingredients.

Of course, as with any food, One Protein Bars are best when consumed as part of a balanced diet rich in whole woods.
