As a fitness professional and researcher, I am always on the lookout for interesting, innovative fitness equipment that makes working out more convenient. Especially if it makes working out from home more convenient, considering most of us are working out from home these days.

Working out from home can be so beneficial, but it can also feel overwhelming to try to recreate the gym experience from home. What we want is to be able to perform all the same movements and have access to all the same equipment that we do at the gym, but from our living rooms - which isn’t always an easy task, especially when budget and space play a role.

So when I stumble upon products like the Terra Core, I’m instantly intrigued. Can this hybrid bench + stepper really provide an all-in-one workout solution? Is this fitness product legit or is it just another gimmick?

In this review, I’m going to break down everything you need to know about the Terra Core and let you decide for yourself if it’s a good investment and addition to your fitness routine.

What is the Terra Core? (My Full Review)

The Terra Core is best described as an oversized Bosu ball with a whole lot more. It’s a stepper and a bench at the same time. The brand calls it an “air-filled, core building, multi-faceted balance machine.”

The product has an inflated side and a flat side and you can use both to perform various different exercises. The entire system is designed to engage and challenge your muscles in a completely new way.

Terra Core was created by Greg Nigro, a leader in the fitness industry. The company was featured on Shark Tank in 2019 where they accepted Lori Greiner’s offer and $300,000 investment to further promote their product and get it into the hands of more people around the world.

Product Length

The Terra Core is 46 inches (116 CM) long.

Product Width

The Terra Core is 18 inches (45 CM) long.

Product Weight

The Terra Core weighs in at 35 lbs (15 KG).

How Does it Work?

The premise of the Terra Core, and what makes it unique in a market saturated with a lot of options, is the air-filled surface that allows you to engage your core and stabilization muscles with every exercise that you perform.

By moving from a hard surface to a soft, dynamic surface, you’re able to increase your efficiency and results when performing the same movements. Basically, you’re getting more bang for your buck. The company has even performed independent studies that demonstrate that using the Terra Core recruits 4 times as many muscles as when the same movement is performed on a flat, hard surface. If that’s not compelling evidence, I don’t know what is!

In addition to the inflated surface, they are handles located on the sides that allow you to pick the unit up and perform overhead presses, rows, weighted squats, and so much more. Furthermore, there are hooks on the unit that allow you to easily attach bands for an even more versatile workout experience.

Balance and stabilization are highly underrated in most fitness programs, however, they’re vital components of a fit, well-rounded body. A strong core is the foundation of a functional, strong body, and Terra Core gets that.

Why core engagement matters

Some of the benefits of properly engaging your core through functional movement include:

  • A healthy, strong back and decreased back pain
  • Improved balance and stability
  • Better posture
  • Increased ease when performing everyday tasks (bending, lifting, turning)
  • Improved performance in sports

Getting started

Getting started with the Terra Core is really simple. It comes with a small air pump and detailed instructions that will guide you through how to set it up in just a few short minutes. Once you’ve filled it with air, it’s good to go.

Cultivating the Mind-Body Connection

I am a big believer in the connection between your body and your mind for optimal fitness and life goals. So when I saw that Terra Core prioritizes this type of holistic approach to fitness, I was even more impressed with the brand.

They know that fitness is about so much more than a shredded body or the perfect physique, it’s about feeling great and living the healthiest, happiest versions of ourselves. Functional, sustainable fitness is what the brand is all about.

By cultivating movement that engages your body’s natural stabilizers and gets your brain firing on multiple planes, your results will include a more athletic, in-tuned body. You’ll be better equipped to handle your everyday life and activities.

In fact, the CDC reports that multicomponent physical activity, or activity that includes more than one type of physical activity, like muscle strengthening and balance training can help improve physical function and decrease the risk of falls. You’re never too old, or too young, to start incorporating multifunctional activities into your daily routine that help keep you performing at your best.

What Exercises Can You Perform?

The Terra Core is very versatile. You can perform any number of exercises, including ones that fall into the following categories:

  • Pulling
  • Pushing
  • Stability
  • Balance
  • Upper body
  • Lower body
  • Full body

You can incorporate all your usual fitness equipment into your workouts like dumbbells, kettlebells, and bands, using the unstable surface to create more of a challenging workout for your entire body.

You can use the Terra Core in conjunction with your regular fitness routine, or you can turn to their dedicated workouts on their app or YouTube channel. They have dozens of curated workouts to choose from, ranging in length, difficulty, and body parts worked. Additionally, their website indicates that they’ll be releasing premium content soon which includes dedicated programs based on various fitness goals.

Terra Core Vs. Bosu Ball

When looking into balance trainers to add core engagement and stability exercises into your routine, you’ll undoubtedly find that Bosu balls are one of the most popular choices. But how do these two types of equipment compare?

To put it simply, Terra Core is a complex, multi-functional piece of equipment and the Bosu ball is much more simplistic in nature. The Bosu is designed primarily for performing movements on top of the ball surface, whereas, Terra Core is designed to be used in a multitude of ways.

Because Terra Core has two working surfaces and handles, it provides a much more comprehensive workout. If you’re simply looking for some balance training, a Bosu ball should suffice. However, if you want to take things to the next level, Terra Core is a complete system that allows you to do so.

Who Is Terra Core Best For?

Terra Core is a great product for nearly anyone at any stage in their fitness journey. Whether you’re a beginner or you’re an advanced athlete, there is always value in adding in more core stabilizing workouts.

The company has workouts that are tailored for users of all fitness levels, so you can be sure to find what works for you now and then be able to progress as your strength improves.

This product is also great for anyone who simply wants an affordable way to incorporate fitness into their life and home gym setup. With so many versatile uses, the Terra Core can easily be the centerpiece of your home gym.

Furthermore, it’s a far more comfortable solution thanks to the inflated surface. For those who suffer from back pain, they may find that the surface of the Terra Core is much more forgiving than a traditional bench.

Final Thoughts: Is this stabilizing bench worth it?

After reviewing the Terra Core and its workouts, I definitely think this is a worthwhile investment for exercisers who are looking to challenge their body in new ways and get better results.

It’s also a great way to mix up a fitness routine that’s gotten stale. If you’ve been performing the same movements on the floor forever, a nice change-up and a great way to challenge your body would be to add in the stability and balance training that you get with the Terra Core.

I really like that this isn’t a piece of equipment that’s trying to get you to do some new, fad workout. The idea is simply that it’s providing you with a different surface to perform your traditional movements on while making them more challenging and beneficial for your mind and body. By simply changing up the surface, you’re completely changing up your fitness routine and its effects on your body.

Lastly, Terra Core offers a lifetime warranty on their product, which is unheard of in the fitness industry. This is truly a sign of their commitment to creating an excellent product that’s built to last. Their unconditional warranty shows that they have created a product that they believe in and stand behind 100%, which is the mark of a great brand and product.

An outstanding piece of gym equipment that is affordable, versatile and can be used for any type of workout.
