Analyzing ProForm Vue: Is This Mirror With Weights Worth It?

One of the most exciting trends to hit the fitness market over the last few years has been connected, or smart, fitness machines for your home. While smart workout equipment was certainly trending (hello, Peloton) before the pandemic, they have exploded in the months since.

From connected bikes and treadmills to mirrors and rowing machines, you can cover all your fitness needs with one piece of gym equipment, leaving even the most die-hard of gym-goers with a newfound love and respect for working out at home.

There are so many brands out there jumping on the connected home fitness bandwagon, from brands that you know and trust like NordicTrack and Bowflex to newcomers like Tempo and MYX Fitness, you have no shortage of options and it doesn’t appear that this trend will be dying out anytime soon.

In this article, we’re going to explore the ProForm Vue, one of the newest fitness mirrors to hit the market from a brand that’s well-known for creating quality, affordable fitness equipment. ProForm’s version of the fitness mirror comes equipped with a set of weights, allowing it to compete with the likes of Tempo and NordicTrack’s Vault. But is the Vue mirror worth it? Let’s explore so that you can decide for yourself.

Why Connected Fitness?

Before we get into the nitty-gritty of our ProForm Vue review, let’s first take a second to consider why connected fitness is such a big trend and whether or not it has staying power.

According to an article published by CB Insights, connected fitness equipment is becoming increasingly popular. In fact, they state that in 2015, the connected fitness category accounted for only 2.9% of the overall revenue in the fitness industry, but by the end of 2020, the figure was around 7.5%. And it’s only expected to continue its ascent, with projections of hitting nearly $4.3 billion in value this year (2021).

There are a few reasons why connected fitness is exploding right now, and they don’t all have to do with the pandemic, but of course, that’s part of it. The truth is that many people desire the convenience of working out from home but dislike feeling like they’re doing it alone. Connected fitness equipment like Vue solves this problem.

Folks who invest in smart home gym equipment have the opportunity to engage in a personalized program that connects them with others, helps them reach their fitness goals, and keeps them motivated and accountable with dedicated programming and monthly subscriptions.

Essentially, fitness brands have harnessed the power of the gym and fitness studios and brought them to our living rooms, eliminating the need for going to the gym and thereby eliminating a lot of our excuses for missing our workouts or falling off plan.

What’s the ProForm Vue?

ProForm Vue is a fitness mirror that allows users to bring the full training experience to their homes. It’s a sleek, compact, elegantly designed mirror with an HD touchscreen that allows users to access hundreds of workouts from ProForm’s dedicated application, iFit.

Vue is designed to fit into nearly any space inside your home, adding to your home’s aesthetics, not taking away it. When not in use, the machine looks like a sleek mirror. Additionally, ProForm included convenient storage on the back of the mirror to neatly conceal and store your weights when not in use. Vue is a great option for those who are working with limited space and/or those who don’t have a dedicated home gym. If your living room or bedroom doubles as your workout space, then Vue is going to provide you with the flexibility to effectively workout from home.

What Are The iFit Workouts Like With ProForm Vue?

Vue integrates with iFit programming, an interactive streaming fitness experience. iFit is used by NordicTrack, ProForm, and Free Motion as their programming for all of their machines, however, folks can also subscribe to the app without owning a piece of equipment.

This fitness app, like so many others, offers a wide birth of workouts to choose from, allowing users to get a personalized workout, led by professional trainers, right from their home with or without equipment.

When it comes to Vue, the main workouts that you’ll be performing are:

  • Strength training using the included weights
  • Reflective training mimicking the movements of your instructor
  • HIIT training to rev your heart rate
  • Yoga and stretching to stretch, relax, and center
variety of workouts with the ProForm Vue home gym

Workouts include Yoga (top left), Strength (right) and HIIT (bottom left). With each workout you can mirror match your trainer!

Within those core workout categories, you’ll find hundreds of live and on-demand workouts to choose from. As an iFit user, you can choose what type of workout you want, how long you’d like to workout for, what body parts to focus on, which instructors you like best, and more. There’s no one size fits all when it comes to fitness, and iFit does a great job of making sure there’s something for everyone in their programming, from beginners to advanced exercisers.

One thing that helps to set the ProForm Vue apart from its competitors is the fact that the Vue comes with a 1-Year iFit Family Membership, which means that you and everyone else in your household can workout for free for a full year! Most other connected equipment requires you to start paying for your membership immediately to gain access to the workouts.

How About The Instructors?

No matter how great the product is or how good the programming, if the instructors who are leading the workouts aren’t great, it won’t matter. Luckily, iFit has a large team of dedicated instructors who are highly trained and well-qualified to lead workouts.

highly trained and qualified iFit fitness instructors

The iFit instructors are upbeat, professional, and motivating so you can get the best workout in from home with your ProForm Vue!

Similar to Peloton, iFit’s instructors have diverse backgrounds, specialties, and personalities. You will likely find that you resonate and connect with some more than others, which is completely normal. Not everyone has the same motivational style, which makes it nice that you’re able to choose from a variety of trainers.

Reading through iFit reviews, you’ll get a good idea of what users like and what they dislike about the platform. The bulk of the negative comments are regarding the customer service users received, not the quality of the workouts or the instruction, which is both good and bad.

The most popular workouts on Vue are the reflective training sessions where your iFit trainers will help you make sure you’re performing movements with proper form. You can easily follow along with your instructor, however, there aren’t any personalized cues or corrections.

How About Sound With ProForm Vue?

Vue has two 3” speakers built into the front of the studio so that you can turn your workout on and tune the rest of the world out. You’ll have no trouble hearing your instructor and enjoying the music inside your workout.

There are two powerful built-in speakers in the ProForm Vue so you can workout with great sound!

If you need to keep it quiet, you have the option to pair with Bluetooth-compatible headphones where you’ll be able to get into the zone without disturbing anyone else in your home.

Ok, down to the wire. Here’s what I love and what I don’t love about ProForm Vue.

Pros of ProForm Vue

  • Sleek, elegant, mirrored design
  • Easy to fit into any room in your home
  • A full year of iFit programming included with purchase
  • Weights included
  • Weights conveniently placed on the back of the studio for discreet storage
  • Tons of workout options to choose from
  • Reflective workouts that allow you to check your form against your instructor
  • Built-in speakers
  • Bluetooth-compatible
  • Large HD touchscreen display
  • Swivel screen for optimal viewing and easy access to weights storage
  • Great warranty

Cons of ProForm Vue

  • Vue only comes with 30 lbs of weight
  • The programming is tailored more toward beginners than intermediate to advanced exercisers
  • You will need to buy a mat and heart rate monitor separately
  • Some workouts require additional equipment that’s not included with your purchase
  • iFit has some negative reviews, particularly regarding their customer service

Final Thoughts on ProForm Vue: Is this smart mirror with weights worth the cost?

After reviewing Vue, I have a few thoughts that I think you should consider before adding to your cart and hitting checkout.

Fitness mirrors are revolutionary and certainly a product that deserves all the hype and attention that they’re getting right now. With these machines, we’re able to take personal training from an in-person, gym environment to our homes. You can put a price on the convenience of working out from home on your schedule.

ProForm Vue is just one of the many options available to consumers right now, but what is helping this product to stand apart from others in the same crowd is the fact that it includes weights for strength training while remaining very competitively priced.

You can get similar products from competitors for the same price but without any strength training equipment included, and we all know how much it costs to acquire a nice set of weights. So if you’re looking to strength train, and you’re not an advanced lifter, Vue comes equipped with a nice starter set of weights and a sleek, discreet way to store them.

On that same note, I want to mention that the 30 lbs of included weights simply won’t be enough for most people who are looking to build muscle and change their body composition. It may be plenty for newbies or those who have limited abilities, but eventually, you’ll likely need to grab some heavier weights. Hopefully, ProForm provides the option to purchase additional weights or plates in the future.

Is It Best For Strength Training?

Personally, I own a Tempo Studio which comes standard with 100 lbs of Olympic weights. This has proven to be plenty of weight for me, but Tempo also offers heavier weights for more advanced lifters, which is incredibly beneficial. If you’re looking to strength train as your primary fitness modality, I 100% recommend choosing Tempo over Vue. From the inclusion of better weights that promote safe, effective progressive overload to programming that’s tailored to the needs of strength training, Tempo is the way to go.

All that said, Vue can be an excellent option for beginners adn those looking to lift light weights and enjoy the variety of workouts offered by iFit. With an affordable price tag and an extended warranty, ProForm did a great job creating a product that’s accessible and reliable for many looking to workout from home.
