Orgain’s Story
We bought and enjoyed Orgain’s protein powder before we ever took the time to get to know this brand’s backstory, but now that we did, we love it even more.
Dr. Andrew Abraham, Orgain’s founder, was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 17. Through chemo and radiation, he lost a lot of weight. His doctor recommended that he up his protein intake by consuming protein powder, however, all he could find was powders stuffed with synthetic and harmful ingredients.
Instead of consuming unhealthy products, Andrew and his mother began making their own protein shakes at home with clean ingredients. He later when on to become a doctor, but he couldn’t shake the feeling that he was meant for something more.
He took a leap of faith, closed his medical practice, and started Orgain Organic Protein in an effort to introduce a healthier, organic shake option to a market that’s filled with unhealthy choices.
What Kinds of Organic Protein Products Are Available?
Protein powders are by far Orgain’s most popular and celebrated product, however, they have a whole line of healthy, organic products that are designed to help you meet you health and nutritional goals.
-Protein powders
-Pre-mixed protein shakes
-Kids protein shakes
-Protein bars
-MCT oil
I’ll be honest, I didn’t know that they had such an extensive line of products to choose from - I was impressed!
Also, when I saw the Orgain Kids Shakes and Kids Bars, I immediately thought of my 4-year old son who seems to never eat and ordered him some. I’m happy to report that he LOVES these products. He thinks they’re a treat, but he’s getting protein, vitamins and minerals, fiber, and 10 different fruits and vegetables! Mommas, be sure to check these out if you have a picky eater.
Is It Healthy and Is it Safe?
Yes! Orgain’s signature Organic protein blend is made from a blend of pure, plant-based protein sources including peas, brown rice, and chia seeds that pack a powerful punch of 21 grams of protein per serving. It is also one of the best pregnancy protein powders for breastfeeding moms and pregnant women.
None of their products contain any of the artificial ingredients that so many of their competitors do. Word to the wise, if you read the label on your protein and you see long names that don’t appear to be real words, stay away!
What Flavors are Available?
Orgain offers a full range of great flavors to choose from. I tend to go a little plain-jane with my flavor choice, opting for vanilla more often than not so that I can add in my favorite ingredients to make a tasty treat. That said, they currently have the following options to choose from:
-Creamy chocolate fudge
-Vanilla bean
-Chocolate peanut butter
-Peanut butter
-Natural unsweetened
-Chocolate coconut (just ordered this one!)
In addition to their regular protein flavor options, they also have the following choices:
-Protein and Greens plant-based protein powder with a serving of kale in each
-Keto collagen protein powder
-Grass-fed whey protein powder
How Does It Taste?
Ok, now to the part of the Orgain protein powder review that you’ve been waiting for: is it any good? To that, we can enthusiastically answer yes!
From both personal experience with this brand as well as reading through reviews from other users, the taste is one of the highest-rated features of this powder. Anyone who’s ever ended up with a giant tub of disgusting protein powder will feel redeemed when they order from this brand!
While I can only personally attest to the rich, creamy flavor of the vanilla and protein + greens flavors so far, most of the many reviewers wrote that the flavors taste exactly how they are marketed.
I always mix my protein powder with almond milk, and most who drink vegan protein do the same, and the addition of almond milk seems to really enhance the flavor.
What Are The Benefits of Taking This Protein Powder?
Adding additional protein to your diet in the form of protein powder can be very beneficial for your heath and fitness goals - whether that be to lose weight, gain weight, or tone up.
This powder has 15 grams of proetin per serving, so it’s safe to use every day for women without worrying about “bulking up.” This formula contains amino acids, iron, and calcium, so you’re getting a well-rounded blend that contributes to the overall health of your body.
Protein powder, when mixed with the right ingredients can be used as a meal replacement. I drink a protein shake for breakfast every morning that contains all the essential food groups to keep me full and focussed while allowing my body to recover from my morning workout.
How Well Does This Powder Mix?
Again, another important question for protein drinkers. We mix Orgain’s protein with almond milk and it is completely clump-free! I usually mix mine up in my beloved smoothie blender but if you don’t have a blender, you can easily mix it up using this shaker bottle.
Is This Formula Good For Weight Loss?
Yes, it can be when used correctly as part of a healthy, active lifestyle. Orgain protein allows you to manage your weight without having to sacrifice on taste and nutritional value. This is one of the very few protein powders we’ve ever found that’s completely plant-based and contains 0 grams of sugar. Since there is no sugar, it makes losing weight a lot easier than some alternatives that contain sugar and other additives.
The Good & The Bad
Pros
Cons
The Bottom Line
The team at Fit Healthy Momma agrees that this is one of the best organic, plant-based protein powders on the market, aside from this one.
Of course, there are some negative reviews out there complaining that the user experienced health issues like gas, bloating, and other digestive issues. This is common with any kind of protein powder, and unfortunately, aside from knowing the ingredients, it sometimes takes trying a powder to know how your body will react to it.
If you’re a vegan or someone who prefers plant-based protein powders, Orgain is definitely a great choice to implement into your healthy and active lifestyle thanks to its high-quality, clean ingredients.
Cheers, ladies!
Ps. They JUST released their brand new Sport Line and I'm already obsessed. Their's a plant-based protein powder, a pre-workout energizer and a post-workout recovery. I just signed up to try all three!
