Openfit is a new online fitness app that’s designed to help you achieve your weight loss goals from home in around 30 minutes per day.
I’ve been working out exclusively from home for over 5 years now and I’m always looking for ways to switch up my routine and try new modalities. I spent some time checking out Openfit and today I’m bringing you my full review so that you can get the low down on what it’s all about and if it’s a good option for you.
What is Openfit?
Openfit is a subscription-based, streaming digital workout app and nutrition platform. They offer over 160 different on-demand workouts and hundreds of live workouts that can be streamed either online via their website or through their app.
Users have the choice between following on-demand workouts from their library of classes or scheduling a live workout session with one of their professional trainers.
Openfit is owned by Beachbody, one of the first and best online streaming platforms.
What Workout Programs Do They Offer?
Currently, Openfit features 7 curated fitness programs in addition to their daily live workout schedule. The workouts include the following:
Workouts include a mix between cardio, Pilates, and ballet fundamentals. This program is led by trainer Andrea Rogers and is one of the most popular choices on the app.

Rough Around the Edges
These workouts are led by a Hollywood stunt woman and feature mainly martial arts-style movements.
Tough MudderT-Minus 30
This program is led by a four-time tough mudder winner, Hunter McIntyre, and features workouts that are designed to improve your overall fitness and reshape your body in just 30 days.
This program is filled with weekly yoga routines led by certified yoga instructors. It’s designed to help you build strength, reduce stress, and transform your body.
These workouts are 10-minute (600 second) HIIT workouts led by functional movement specialist Devin Wiggins. These are designed to give you a fast, effective workout when you’re short on time.
Relax your mind and calm your body in as little as 10 minutes per day with these medication exercises.
In addition to their curated fitness programs, Openfit now also features live daily workouts, lasting for 10+ hours each day. These workouts provide a great mix of HIIT, strength training, barre, yoga, walking, running, and more. Each of these workouts lasts anywhere from 15-40 minutes.
Openfit LIVE is a relatively new addition to the app that has allowed it to keep up with and compete with the other fitness apps out there like Obe, Fiton, and Peloton that offer a similar format of live daily classes that allow you to work out in real-time with hundreds of others all around the world.
Who is Openfit For?
Openfit caters to the fitness and nutrition needs of a broad audience. Anyone who wants to find a sustainable workout option that they can do from home, on their schedule, and without spending hours per day. The majority of the workouts can be done in 30 minutes or less, which is perfect for those who are short on time and want to get in a quick, efficient workout.
All of the workouts are designed to be done from the comfort of your home, with little to no equipment. The convenience and flexibility this streaming workout app offers are perfect for so many people who want to get in shape, lose weight, build muscle, etc. but don’t have the time or the ability to get to the gym.
There’s truly something for everyone. Even if you don’t like any of their curated workout programs, their live workouts offer a gamut of options. Exercise alone isn’t going to allow most people to reach their weight loss and body composition goals, nutrition is a key element to success with any program. Openfit offers two simple nutrition programs that can help users reach their goals when combined with their workout programs.
Your subscription to Openfit grants you access to their One Min Meal Plan and their Sugar-Free 3 plan. Both plans are designed to help you reach your goals without spending a lot of time planning, tracking, and overanalyzing. It’s nutrition simplified for those who don’t have a lot of time to spend on it. They really take the hassle and guesswork out of eating healthy.
Openfit also offers a community on social media (Facebook and Instagram) that allows users to feel a sense of community, sharing tips, tricks, and recipes. This space is perfect for Openfit members to support each other and share weight-loss victories.
Does Openfit Work? Will it produce results?
When you visit the official website, you’ll be greeted with a claim that states users may lose up to 9 pounds in just 30 days. However, the disclaimer readers that “results vary depending on starting point and effort.”
After reading dozens of reviews, many people comment that Openfit workouts are challenging, tough, effective, and motivating. Overall, users are highly pleased with the results they see and feel and really feel like they are challenging their bodies, even when the workouts are short.
Xtend Barre seems to be the most popular choice on this platform by far. There are hundreds of women getting amazing results from this amazing barre program.
The workouts you’ll find on this platform will most definitely work if you follow along and put in the time and effort to make sure that your nutrition is in line with the results you want. Openfit makes it easy by offering meal plans and tracking included with your subscription.
How Much Does Openfit Cost?
Currently, Openfit members can choose from three different subscription plans: There’s a 14-day free trial, after which you can choose from a 12-month plan for $96 for the year ($8 per month), a 6-month semi-annual plan for $60 ($10 per month), or an every three-month plan for $39 ($13 per month).
The best value is obviously the yearly plan. Even if you only used the subscription here and there throughout the year, you would more than get your money worth. This is easily one of the most affordable home workout apps on the market.
What Equipment is Needed?
Very little! All of the workouts included in the app are designed to be done from home, so little to no equipment is required for the majority of the workouts. This is great news as even finding dumbbells these days is tough!
You can skate by with no equipment for some programs, but for others, you’ll want a pair or two of weights, and perhaps a stability ball.
Pros and Cons
Every workout app has its pros and cons, here’s what I love and what I wish were a little different about Openfit:

- You have access to customized nutrition plans that are actually great
- There are hundreds of workouts to choose from and the variety is excellent
- The price is very affordable, especially when compared to many of their competitors
- Workouts can be streamed from any device
- You’re not locked into a contract, you can cancel at anytime
- The app is very user-friendly and easy to navigate and understand
- The trainers are awesome! Professional, knowledgeable, and motivating
- Their blog has a ton of content that features nutrition tips, recipes, fitness tips, and more
- There’s a community you can join and feel connected to others who are on a similar path
- There is no contact phone number for customer service, you must send them an email via their contact us form
- Workouts are only available with internet access
- It’s only available for those who live in the US right now
Openfit Vs. Beachbody
Openfit is owned by Beachbody, a hugely successful working application in its own rights. So why did Beachbody create a new app and what are the differences?
Per sources, Beachbody wanted to create a separate app that was more affordable and accessible for everyday people who are looking to get in shape and lose weight in as little times as possible per day.
The goal was to compete with the myriad of new workout apps that have hit the market in recent months that offer people easy access to on-demand workouts.
I would break it down this way, Beachbody is an awesome platform that has hundreds of workouts to choose from, all of which are part of dedicated programs. Openfit, on the other hand, is more for a la carte workouts and live workouts.
If you’re the type of person who loves variety and choosing your workout of the day based on how you’re feeling that day, then you’re going to love Openfit. You’ll also like that you have the option to choose a dedicated program if you’re feeling like sticking to a structured routine. It’s the best of both worlds.
Openfit Reviews: What Are Users Saying Online?
As reported by appgrooves.com, there are 9.2k ratings, with an average star rating of 4.9/5. 99% of Openfit reviews are positive, with only a handful that are negative.
After reading the negative reviews, I discovered that they were regarding users being unable to contact the customer support team. However, I did some research and it appears that the Openfit team has taken heed and revamped their customer service availability and access so that customers now have more options for getting in touch.
Overall, the reviews are exceptional with only a handful of complaints regarding the inability to contact customer service, which is common in the app world. In general, people are raving about the effectiveness of the workouts and the convenience they offer to their lives.
The Verdict: Should You Try Openfit?
Heck, yes! If you’re reading this review, then you probably;y heard about Openfit and want to see if it’s worth your time and money. That also means that you’re searching for a workout app that will allow you to workout from home effectively, Openfit does just that.
I have tried several of the workouts on the app and have really enjoyed them. They remind me of Beachbody workouts very much, which makes sense considering they are created by the same company. The good news with Openfit is that you don’t have to deal with Beachbody “coaches” (sorry, coaches) which can feel pressure-y and in your face.
Overall, it’s a great app for people who want to get in shape, lose some weight, or train for an upcoming event like a tough mudder. It’s also great for people on a time crunch, those of us who don’t have a full hour to dedicate to working out each day.
