Sharing my detailed review of the obé fitness platform, my favorite classes, pros, cons, and if their online workouts classes work.
If you haven’t heard about the latest at-home, on-demand fitness craze, Obé fitness, get ready because it’s taking over the online fitness world.
Remember back in the day when home workouts meant popping in a DVD, or (*gasp*) a VHS? Those days are long gone. Today, streaming workouts are all the rage. And it makes sense, who doesn’t want an easy, effective way to get in shape and maintain an active and healthy lifestyle from the comfort of their own home?
While streaming workouts and fitness apps have been around for years now, we’re now seeing more live, interactive workouts. Obé Fitness is an up and coming workout program and community that offers people the chance to get in shape, feel supported, and build connections like never before.
I personally started using Obé fitness, as well as their NYC competitor NEOU fitness, a little over a month ago and felt compelled to write a review. I’ve tried A LOT of workouts and fitness programs at this point, and as a certified personal trainer and fitness instructor, I know a thing or two about what makes a good program. And as a mom of two, I definitely know what works for moms and their busy schedules!

This is my honest review of the obé fitness brand and app. Is it worth it? Let's find out!
What is Obé Fitness?
Obé (pronounced “Obéy”) is a fitness brand that was created by Ashley Mills and Mark Mullett, two former creative agents. These two set out to revolutionize the at-home fitness experience by bringing users something they’ve never seen before.
With their combined knowledge and natural knack for creating great content, they started the Obé Fitness brand, specializing in on-demand and live-streamed fitness classes in a 28-minute format. Yes, you read that right, each class is just 28-minutes each!
Their idea was to recreate the experience of going to a swanky NYC fitness studio for all their viewers at home. This is evidenced by the workout stage, which is a bright, open box – it certainly has a different look and feels than any other streaming workout class I’ve ever seen.

What Are The Workouts Like?
The 28-minute workouts are sorted into several different categories; Sweat, Define, Flow, and Pre-and-Post-Natal, too. There are also express workouts that are 10 minutes long, advanced workouts that are 45-minutes long, and workouts designed specifically for kids and seniors.
Within each of their main categories, there are several class types. Here’s a breakdown of the main category offerings:

There are so many reasons to love Obé, but here are my top 8:
1. It’s FUN and Flexible!
The whole point of home workouts is to have the ability to do them on your own schedule, right? And that’s exactly what Obé is all about. Not only do they stream 14 live classes per day, but they also have a complete library of hundreds of on-demand workouts to choose from.
So, if a live class matches with your schedule, you can take it live. If not, scroll through the pre-recorded classes – it’s virtually the same experience. This is the perfect workout for moms and busy women who need flexibility and variety.
2. The Workouts Are AWESOME
Anyone who has followed me for a while knows that I am kind of a workout snob, meaning I’m very particular about my workouts. I have tried so many that I was less than impressed with.
I can honestly say that I’ve tried each of the workout categories available on Obé (even the types I wouldn’t typically try i.e. yoga) and I have LOVED every one of them. The studio is bright and cheery, the trainers are positive and full of energy, and the workouts are downright effective.
From HIIT classes that leave me breathless to Pilates that leave me shaky and sore – it’s safe to say I’m obsessed!

4. The Workouts are Challenging
I’ll be honest, I took one look at the bright, bubbly instructors and the fun setting and though that there was no way I would feel challenged. Boy was I wrong. My favorite workouts by far are the Power and HIIT workouts. I have become obsessed with strength training lately and the Power classes are absolutely perfect. I also like to mix in some HIIT to rev up my cardio, without spending hours pounding away on the treadmill.
The best part is that you can choose your own intensity. I have progressively upped my weights recently, starting with 5-10 lbs dumbbells in each workout and working my way to 12-20 lbs dumbbells. The instructors are amazing at pushing you to go for it, while always recommending that you do what’s comfortable for you without losing form.
5. Time is Going to Fly!
I don’t know about you, but I love working out, but hate when I feel like a workout is dragging. These workouts are short, concise, and don’t leave any room for small talk and wasted time. Anyone else ever start doing their next reps before the instructor because you just can’t stand to listen to them waste time anymore? I’ve had that happen so many times, but never with Obe. They have a perfectly built out routine ready to go and they know that they need to keep it on schedule to keep it moving along - I love that!
Remember the days when we could sign up for a fitness class at our favorite gym, and even though we didn’t want to schlep out of bed on Saturday morning to go do it, we did it anyway because we committed and paid? These classes can have the same effect.
With a full day of live classes lined up each day, you can reserve your spot in an upcoming class and then make a date to be there. I find that it really helps hold me accountable for showing up when I said I was going to and it gives me something to look forward to, because let’s face it, we all need something to look forward to these days.
7. You’ll Be Part of An Incredible Community
One of the best things about online fitness these days is that even though you’re essentially working out alone in front of your TV or computer screen, you’re interacting with your trainer and hundreds of others who are taking the class alongside you. The trainers will often take a few seconds to call out names from the live workout, making you feel like you’re right in class with them.
Obe also has an online community with so much support. You can follow all of the instructors on Instagram and can use hashtags to find fellow Obe-fam all over the world. The community aspect is vital when it comes to sticking with a program and making it sustainable.
8. You Can Track Your Progress
They included a Class Tracker tool that allows you to track your weekly progress and help you “Strive for Five,” or get at least 5 workouts in per week. The tracker counts both the live classes you take and the on-demand classes, so you can track what workouts you’ve done throughout the week.

B: There's always new classes and it NEVER gets boring. This company is constantly adding new workouts, doing live classes and on the cutting edge when it comes to fitness. There's so much variety!
C: I can do some of these workouts with my 4 year old son and he loves them just as much as me! So at least one of us is doing a workout daily on the platform which makes the monthly cost more than worth it to me.
Do I Need Equipment for Obé Fitness Workout Classes?
Although you don't need equipment for many of the on-demand workouts, it is helpful to have a few items on hand so you can challenge yourself a little more.
It's nice to have something that's padded on the ground for these workouts, especially for those of you who have hardwood or concrete floors. I use this one because it has extra padding and a little more real estate than other options I've shopped around for.
Dumbbells (1lbs, 3lbs, 5lbs, 8lbs, etc.):
Using resistance bands have been nothing short of excellent with my online workouts. This cute pack for women has a few different resistance levels to help the beginner to the advanced.
I have been using these ankle weights to get a little extra oomph on my workouts and it's been great!
Make sure to have a water bottle on hand so you stay hydrated. There's nothing worse than completing a workout and not having water around. There are some really cool options to choose from. I absolutely love this one because it's so big and I don't have to fill it up ALL day long.
I’ve read some reviews that say their only complaint was that they had a hard time canceling their subscription. I will say that when they first started, you had to call and physically speak to a rep on the phone, which who wants to do that these days? Thankfully, since they’ve grown, they implemented a simple cancellation feature.
You can cancel your subscription anytime by signing into your account and going to your subscription setting by clicking on your initials or profile picture in the upper-righthand corner. Then, click “Manage Subscription” and scroll down to see the cancel your subscription information. This needs to be done on your PC, or, if you created your account with Apple, you will need to cancel through your Apple subscription settings, which is really simple. Once you cancel, you’ll continue to have access to the platform until the end of your billing period.
You can use the add to calendar option to schedule a live workout class and hold yourself accountable, however, you don’t have to. You can show up anytime in a live class.
Yes, there’s a pink heart in the upper-righthand corner of each video, clicking that will save it to your favorites.
Outside of class, there are a number of ways to connect with the community. They have a private Facebook group, but you can also find them by searching for hashtags. Inside the community, you’ll find everything from workout motivation, healthy recipes, and everything in between.
If you’re traveling or your wi-fi goes out, no worries. You can store up to 7 on-demand classes in your app that you’ll be able to access even when you’re disconnected.
When you select a monthly subscription plan, just enter your code into the box that says “Gift or Promo Code” and it should automatically apply the discount for you. Please note, discount codes are only valid for new monthly membership subscriptions. You cannot apply the code to their quarterly and annual memberships. I recommend using the 30% off code for a monthly subscription, and then switching to a quarterly or annual subscription after your first month to get the biggest cost savings.

Reviews of Obe Fitness: What Are Customers Saying Online About obé?
After reading nearly all of the reviews online, 94% are positive and only a handful are negative. The negative reviews are mostly about customers not being able to get a hold of the company. However, all negative reviews were dealt with promptly and with class. This shows a strong sign of outstanding customer support.
On their facebook page, they have an overwhelming amount of happy customers as this company is literally BLOWING up. To me, it's seriously amazing to see a company start from scratch and just grow exponentially like they have, as I have been covering Obe (Our Body Electric) for nearly a year now.

Update: Am I Still Loving It?
When I first wrote this review, I had just started using Obe about a month before. That was about 8 months ago, so I wanted to come back and provide my results and an update.
First and foremost, yes, I am still obsessed with Obe! I have been using their platform regularly this whole time. It’s not my only source of fitness as I have also been implementing Madeline Moves workouts into my routine, too, but I still use Obe often.
I find these workouts to be perfect for the mornings when I’m short on time or the afternoons when I need a break from sitting at the computer. I’ll often head downstairs and queue up a quick workout, usually HIIT to get my heart rate up and get sweaty.
I also often do workouts with my 4-year-old son, he loves them! He isn’t able to keep up with me when I do hard-core strength workouts, but these workouts are perfect. We’ll either do a kid’s workout or we’ll do pilates or yoga together and it’s the perfect way for us to spend time together and to develop healthy habits. I envision doing the same with my daughter when she gets a bit older.
