I don’t know about you, but I hate going to the pharmacy. It always feels like an ordeal.
First, you have to make sure you refill your prescription on time, then you have to drive there, wait in line, get told it’s not ready yet, and then you wait for 20-30 minutes.
Meanwhile, you’re browsing the aisles, filling your cart with meaningless stuff you don’t really need. All this just to get your monthly birth control pill. Sigh.
And let’s not even get into what happens when you forget to refill your RX and are left missing a day of your pills, throwing your entire cycle off or the cost of birth control pills.
If you can relate to any of this, then you’re going to love the company I am talking about in today’s post. Nurx is revolutionizing the way we get our birth control pills and I am 100% here for it.
Introducing Nurx: My Complete Review in 2021
This company is dedicated to women’s health, believing that birth control pills should be easy, affordable, and delivered right to your door. As their website states, “It’s about more than preventing unplanned pregnancy — it’s about giving you freedom.”
They offer monthly contraceptive online for as little as $0 per month with insurance and $15 per month without. Their motto: “Your body. Your choice. It’s that simple.”
Nurx is a 100% legit website and are pioneers in online birth control. Thanks to their telemedicine platform, you can now get expert care from home and avoid doctor office waiting rooms or embarrassing appointments.
Recently, they even added additional offerings. Not only can you get birth control pills online, but you can also get the morning after pill, STI testing, herpes treatment, and more. You can have access to all your sexual and reproductive health necessities without ever subjecting yourself to an embarrassing and shameful visit to your doctor or pharmacy.

How Does Nurx's Platform Work?
I happened to stumble upon Nurx when I was looking to get back on birth control after having my second (and last!) baby. Although I struggled to get pregnant with both of my children, I didn’t want any accidents. I heard of Nurx from a friend and decided to give it a try myself, here’s how it works:
Step 1
Go to their website and click Get Started. You’ll first be asked a few health questions on their intake form and you’ll pay at $15 fee for your medical consult. This felt like a small fee to pay, to be honest, because it includes unlimited messaging with their medical team for an entire year.
Step 2
Their licensed, US doctors will review your information and write you a prescription (if deemed appropriate).
Step 3
The Nurx pharmacy will fill your prescription for you, sending you a 3-month supply right to your door, in discreet packaging, for free.
Step 4
From then on, you’ll get an automatic refill shipped to your home on schedule. No need to call or remind them. This part was huge for me!
Step 5
You can cancel at any time, there are no fees or hassles for doing so.
What products and tests are currently available from Nurx?

Here’s a little more information on each of these services:
Nurx's Birth Control Reviewed
We all know that there are a ton of options when it comes to BC. I know I have personally tried several different brands throughout my journey of using it.
Nurx offers over 100 different generic and name brand options, so if you have one that you particularly like or are used to, I would bet that they offer it.
They also offer the patch, ring, and shots, too. I have only ever used the pill, however, it’s great to know that they offer these other options as I know plenty of women who use them.
The best part is that they don’t stick you with an option, you get the choice of what kind and type of contraception you want. I went with my tried-and-true pill that I took for years prior to trying to conceive and it was no issue getting a prescription for it. [Start here to purchase]
Emergency Contraceptive
You might know this by the more common term, the “morning-after pill.” This medication works by temporarily preventing your ovaries from releasing an egg. Things happen; condoms break, you lapsed on your birth control, etc. This medication can be an extremely effective way to prevent unwanted pregnancy.
In order for emergency contraception to be effective, you must take it within five days of having unprotected sex. Therefore, you’ll want to order this as soon as possible to ensure your pill arrives to your home in time. In general, Nurx is well-known for their expedited shipping.
You’ll have two different brands to choose from Plan B or Ella. Your healthcare provider can give you the rundown on which option is best for you based on your situation.
Don't risk it!

Nurx's HIV PrEP Reviewed
PrEP, or Pre-exposure Prophylaxis, is a drug made by the company named Truvada. When taken daily, it can significantly reduce your risk of HIV taking hold in your body and spreading throughout.
It’s important to note that this medication does not reduce the risk of other sexually transmitted diseases. Also, this medication is not intended for those who have already tested positive for HIV.

FAQs
If you’ve never used a telemedicine provider before or never gotten your birth control pills online, you probably have some questions. Take a look at the FAQs below for more information.
There are two parts: your initial consultation and your prescription. Just like your doctor charges a fee for an office visit, Nurx charges a flat-rate fee of $15 for your consultation. This includes a year of unlimited messaging with their medical team. This comes in handy should you have any questions at all or if you decide you want to switch to another brand or method. It’s important to note that they do not at this time submit your medical consult claim to your insurance. You will pay the $15 fee out of pocket.
For the prescriptions, if you have health insurance, your cost should be $0. In some cases, insurance providers assign a copay higher than $0. If this is the case for you, Nurx will authorize a $30 amount at checkout and you will only be charged if you have a copay. If your copay is in excess of $30, they will notify you. If you do not have insurance, they have brands that will require just a $15 copay per month. If you do not have insurance but you have a specific brand that you would like to be prescribed, you can email them at [email protected] for a pricing estimate before you buy.
Ok, we’re all thinking this, right? Is this the real deal or not? As someone who personally orders her birth control through this company, I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt that this company and the medications their doctors prescribe you are indeed legitimate. I understand it can feel a little sketchy to order medications online, especially considering there are so many scams out there. But this service provides you with the exact same prescriptions you get from your in-person doctor, but without all the hassle of going to visit their office and then the pharmacy.
Generally speaking, yes. The drugs prescribed through this platform are prescribed using the same rules and medical standards as your regular physician. The medical professionals who work for this company will only prescribe medication if it is safe to do so based on the information you provide.
It provides a new way for you to access healthcare from licensed medical providers. But it is NOT intended to replace the relationship you have with your primary care provider. It’s a safe and convenient way to get prescription medications for birth control, emergency contraceptive, herpes, and testing, but it does not replace your in-person physician for yearly physicals and emergency services.
Yes, it’s an easy, discreet, and judgment-free way to get access to PrEP. You still need to go through all the proper protocols to obtain your prescription, including lab work. The entire process takes, on average, 7-10 days, depending on how quickly you’re able to get your lab work complete. The best part is that it’s very affordable when using Nurx. Per their website, 99% of patients will pay $0 for their PrEP medication.
When you have a daughter who is a minor but would like to get birth control, the law states that she must have her own account that contains her own health information. She must have control over her account and have direct access to communication with their medical providers. You can help her manage her account, though. It’s also important to keep in mind that to be considered for a birth control prescription, she must be at least 12 years old, with some states requiring that the patient be even older. So please check with your state’s specific guidelines.
They use USPS 1-3 day priority shipping to send you your medications for FREE. So, you can expect your delivery to arrive within as little as 3-5 business days. For reference, I ordered mine on a Monday and received my discreet package on Thursday.

Customer Reviews on Nurx Summary
According to the BBB, most reviews of Nurx (or nurx.com) are positive (scoring 3.9 stars out of 5 stars), while the most recent reviews are negative. Another source, Reddit, has multiple people defending the bad reviews, saying Nurx is a legit company with great customer service and a happy experience.
Most of the positive testimonials are all about customer satisfaction as well as their top of the line birth control product. Customers love how it can be delivered right to their front door, without having to go to the doctors office.
The negative reviews have to do with the company not being very responsive with messages between them and the customer. This can be extremely frustrating for patients that need the correct prescription at the right time.
To sum it up, the tides are turning from negative to positive from April 2020, to late August 2020. This shows a strong sign of leadership, and that they have acknowledged all of their unhappy customers. I look forward to seeing them improve in the next month as well.

Final Verdict: Can You Trust Nurx for Online Birth Control?
Honestly, I am beyond happy with the service I have received from Nurx. I only wish I had found this sooner as I could have saved myself a lot of time and energy going to the doctor and the pharmacy to pick up my pills each month.
Some Nurx testimonials complain about the $15 consultation fee and the fact that they don’t submit it to your insurance. Personally, I find the $15 to a fair and minuscule price to pay for the service you receive. I am more than willing to pay $15 for a year of online, discreet access to a medical provider for issues that I’d rather not discuss in person.
I am an online birth control converter and have even recommended this service to a few of my girlfriends already. I truly believe that telemedicine is the future, especially in the age of COVID-19.
I am grateful for brands like Nurx who are bringing quality healthcare center stage and making it simple, easy, and affordable for women everywhere.
