3 Reasons Why You Will Love This Ninja Creami Protein Ice Cream Recipe

  1. One serving boasts 40g of protein! Who says ice cream can’t be macro-friendly?? If you’re an ice cream lover like me, you’ll love that you can fit delicious ice cream into your daily macros regardless of what nutritional phase you’re currently in.
  2. Most protein or “healthy” ice creams are completely sub-par when it comes to taste and texture. Suffice it to say that I won’t be buying a pint of Halo Top again anytime soon.
  3. There are an endless number of flavor combinations that you can make. Between different protein options and flavors and the abundance of different mix-in options, you’ll never get bored with your Ninja Creami protein ice cream.

Ingredients

  • Milk – I find that regular cow’s milk works better than milk alternatives like nut milks. I like to use Fairlife 1% milk for a super creamy texture.
  • Protein Powder – I wish I could say that any protein powder will do, but it’s important to find the right one. Personally, I love using Clean Simple Eats for Ninja Creami Ice Creams. My code TAMI will save you. So many amazing flavors to choose from!

How to Make Ninja Creami Protein Ice Cream

Keep in mind that when you’re preparing a Ninja Creami treat, you need to prep it the night BEFORE you intend to eat it. You will need your base mix to be frozen for at least 6 hours, but preferably overnight. Here’s a step-by-step of how to make protein ice cream in your Ninja Creami machine:

  1. Add 12 oz. of milk to your blender cup (or right into your Ninja Creami ice cream cup if you’re not using a blender).
  2. Add 1 scoop of protein powder and any other ingredients you’re planning to add to the base i.e. vanilla extract, cocoa powder, etc.
  3. Blend the milk & protein powder together until well combined. If not using a blender, whisk together thoroughly.
  4. Pour the mixture into your Creami ice cream pink container and place the lid on securely.
  5. Place your ice cream pint into the freezer and allow it to freeze overnight or for at least 6 full hours.
  6. Once your mixture has completely frozen, remove it from the freezer and remove the lid.
  7. Put your frozen protein ice cream base on your Ninja Creami pint holder.
  8. Place the blade securely into the lid and then place the lid onto the pint holder.
  9. Lock the Creami into place, turn the machine on, and then select “ice cream.”
  10. After the first cycle has completed, remove your pint from the Creami, remove the bladed lid, and create a small hole in the middle of the ice cream. Your ice cream at this point should be a little more like shaved ice than ice cream.
  11. Add a couple of tablespoons of milk to the whole you created in the center.
  12. Place the Creami pint lid back on and place your pint back on the machine.
  13. Once secure, run the ice cream cycle again.
  14. After the cycle has finished, remove the lid and give your ice cream a stir. At this point, it should be very smooth, creamy, and ice cream-like.
  15. Create another small hole in the center and add your mix-ins right into the whole.
  16. Place the lid back on the Creami pint, add the pint back onto the machine, secure it in place, and run the machine on the “mix-ins” cycle.
  17. Once the cycle is finished, remove the pint from the machine and remove the lid.
  18. Scoop your ice cream out into a bowl and add any additional toppings of your choice. Enjoy!!

Swaps or Alternatives

Milk – In my experience, the milk you use will make or break your protein ice cream. Nut milks and milk alternatives don’t create the same creaminess that regular milk will. That being said, milk alternatives are still a great option! If you want to beef up the calories and fat, you could also try making it with cream. Lastly, you can use a pre-made protein shake in place of milk to really ramp up your protein intake.

Protein powder – You may need to play with which protein powder you like best as some turn out better than others. I have tried Clean Simple Eats & 1st Phorm Level-1 so far, both of which are whey protein powders and they turned out great. A good vegan protein powder might work well, too, but I have not tried any yet.

Quick Tip(s)

Adding the extra step to mix your milk + protein powder in a blender helps to make sure that your mixture is fully incorporated before freezing. Failure to do so could result in your protein powder and milk separating which can cause the flavor and texture to be off.

If you find that the flavor is too bland with just the protein powder and milk, experiment with adding in sweeteners like sugar substitutes, sugar-free pudding mix, etc.

  • Add a couple of tablespoons of milk to the whole you created in the center.
  • Place the Creami pint lid back on and place your pint back on the machine.
  • Once secure, run the ice cream cycle again.
  • After the cycle has finished, remove the lid and give your ice cream a stir. At this point, it should be very smooth, creamy, and ice cream-like.
  • Create another small hole in the center and add your mix-ins right into the whole.
  • Place the lid back on the Creami pint, add the pint back onto the machine, secure it in place, and run the machine on the “mix-ins” cycle.
  • Once the cycle is finished, remove the pint from the machine and remove the lid.
  • Scoop your ice cream out into a bowl and add any additional toppings of your choice. Enjoy!!

Notes

If your ice cream doesn’t come out as creamy as you’d like, add a couple of tablespoons of milk and use the “re-spin” option as many times as needed to get the consistency you want.
You can store your ice cream in the freezer so long as you keep the lid securely closed.
