They recognized a couple of things; first, that not everyone wants to compete during their workout and second, that not everyone has $2000+ to spend on a piece of gym equipment.
The MYX Fitness bike is outfitted with some stellar features and a lower price point. But is this at-home spin bike the real deal? Is it worth the investment or should you bite the bullet and go for the Peloton?

When it comes to the construction of this bike, MYX Fitness emphasized quality in every detail. With superior quality construction, this bike is durable, rust-proof and hypoallergenic. The MYX System Does it all
MYX is so much more than just a spin bike, it’s a complete home gym system that replaces your need to have any other equipment.

Specs and Footprint
Whether you’re an experienced spinner at home or not, you probably recognize a spin bike when you see one. The MYX bike includes a 21.5-inch touchscreen tablet that’s mounted directly above the handlebars. The tablet swivels a full 360 degrees and alsi tilts up and down so that you can easily move it around to get the perfect viewing angle when you hit the mat for a workout and so that you can get a customized view while on the bike.
While this bike boasts an impressive screen size, the bike itself is compact and sturdy. The entire assembly measures just 54 x 21 x 47 inches and weighs 150 pounds with the touchscreen. It supports users from 4 ft 11 in to 6 ft 8 in and is approved for up to 350 pounds.
MYX Membership Classes: On-demand one-on-one coaching
One thing is for sure, most of us don’t like doing the same thing day in and day out, so variety is essential. MYX caters to every type of workout, time frame, and experience level so that everyone can get in a great workout regardless of how much time they have or what their style is.
When using the MYX interface, you’ll immediately notice that it’s very user-friendly and easy to navigate. You’ll see tabs at the top of the screen for Bike, Floor, Mindful, and Cross-Training. From there, you can browse workouts and filter them by coach, duration, level, type, and music, giving you a customized workout each time.
You can choose from 15, 20, 30, or 45-minute programs currently. Many of the workouts are designed to be combined with others. For example, you can take a 20 minute spin class and then head to the floor to do a 15 minute strength class and have a solid workout for the day. Need more accountability? You can utilize their schedule feature which allows you to schedule an upcoming class. You can even sync it to your phone’s calendar for an extra reminder.
Aside from workouts done on the bike screen, there’s a dedicated MYX app (check out our myxfitness app and classes review article for more information) that allows you to take your workouts on the go. You can stream floor workouts anywhere from your phone, tablet, or computer. The app integrates with Apple Health for those who use an iphone or Apple Watch. MYX tracks your workouts, letting you know how many you’ve done, your calorie burn, heart rate tracking, and more.
Workout Tracking: Heart-rate zone training
A key part of MYX workouts is heart rate zone tracking, which is why they include a Polar OH1 armband monitor to wear during workouts. All you need to do is strap it to your arm and turn it on with a quick press of a button on the side. Then, you’ll select your desired workout from the screen and press the HR Monitor button to pair them up. There’s also a Headphones button on the screen that allows you to pair your headphones, too.
No matter what type of workout you select, you’ll see color-coded metrics on your screen that indicate what heart rate zone you’re in. Here’s the breakdown:
- Blue: Zone 1 - This is a comfortable, sustainable exertion
- Green: Zone 2 - This is a challenging, but still manageable effort
- Orange: Zone 3 - This is your max effort, not sustainable
You’ll also see on your screen your current heart rate, maximum and minimum heart rate, and a graph that shows the progression of your heart rate throughout your entire workout as well as your total calories burned and how much time remains in the workout.
The biggest difference between the MYX system and that of other interactive bikes like Peloton or Echelon is that the main goal is not to compete with others on the leaderboard, as there is none with MYX, but to compete with yourself, focussing on your heart rate and exertion.
Throughout your workout, your instructor will coach you through which heart rate zone you should be in, which will cue you to manually adjust your resistance knob and pace accordingly. The resistance knob is easy to use; turning it to the right increases your resistance and heart rate, and turning it to the left decreases your resistance and heart rate.
Who Should Buy The MYX Fitness Bike?
The MYX Fitness Bike is just one of the latest machines that have hit the market in a time when we needed the most. With many gyms still closed and with people avoiding gyms even if they are open, we’re looking for smart ways to workout from our own homes.
This system is perfect for anyone who’s looking to invest in a complete home gym system without the bulk and price tag of traditional alternatives. Also, it’s perfect for those who wish to ditch their gym membership and experience the convenience of working out from home.
MYX is appealing to a broader audience with their bike because they priced their system affordably, allowing more people the opportunity to purchase one. They also open the door up to those who don’t really have an interest in competing with others during their workouts. Not everyone wants to see their name at the top of a leaderboard. With MYX, it’s you against you, which can be highly motivating for many people, especially those that get caught up in the leaderboard mentality.
MYX takes the competition out of their workouts and therefore the intimidation, which is fantastic for an entry-level spinner and for those just starting out on your fitness journey. That said, even experienced cyclists can benefit from the “me vs. me” mentality that MYX encourages with their heart rate monitoring and tracking system. You get to push yourself based on your heart rate, not based on a number the instructor is shouting for you to hit, which is refreshing for many.

Two Packages to Choose From
They offer two package options; the MYX or MYX Plus, both packages include the bike, touchscreen, and heart rate monitor. The biggest difference is that the MYX Plus comes complete with everything you need to get a great workout from home including weights, exercise mat, foam roller, resistance bands, stabilizing mat, and a kettlebell. The MYX costs $1299 and the MYX Plus costs $1499.
If you’re completely new to home fitness and don’t have any equipment at home yet, the MYX Plus is a great deal because you can get everything you need in one tidy package. On the other hand, if you already have a supply of weights, mats, bands, etc, you’ll be fine getting the basic package and using your current equipment.
MYX currently offers FREE shipping and in-home setup ($250 value), however, this deal is only for a limited time. Additionally, they offer a 30-day return policy and an 11-year complete warranty.
Aside from the cost of the machine and equipment, you’ll need to pay for a membership to their MYX classes which costs $29 per month (for reference, that’s $10 less than Peloton). A membership will give you unlimited access to hundreds of workouts and the ability to create up to 5 accounts so that everyone in your home can enjoy working out.

The Bottom Line

I am thoroughly impressed with the design of the bike, the price point, and the classes/trainers. Anyone who thought working out effectively from home was impossible will be proven wrong with this all-in-one system.
That said, if you’re someone who feeds off competing with others, you may be more inclined to go for the Peloton or Echelon bike as their memberships offer access to live classes with leaderboards and a competitive nature. However, if you are a “me against me” type of person, you’ll find everything you need inside the Myx system. And, they are constantly adding new content to their library, so you’ll never be bored!
