Fit Healthy Momma Rating: 9.5/10 ⭐

Little Spoon’s organic, cold-pressed smoothies are the perfect snack for on-the-go babies, toddler, and big kids. Packed with fresh whole fruits, veggies, and nutrient-dense superfoods, these pouches are an excellent alternative to store-bought ones!

My kiddos love pouches. You know, the ones that you can find a dime a dozen at the grocery store that are filled with lord knows what? Yea, those are a staple around our home.

While I am always trying to feed my family the healthiest options, the truth is that my kids (like most), can practically sniff out the healthy stuff which usually leads to them turning up their noses and declaring that they don’t like it.

So you can imagine my skeptisim when Little Spoon launched their newest product, Little Spoon Smoothies. Healthy, fresh, cold-pressed, and filled with fruits and veggies? Sounds amazing to my mom ears, but would my kids actually love them?

Considering we’ve been huge fans of Little Spoon for a couple of years now, I already know and appreciate the level of attention and care that goes into every Little Spoon meal. Plus, my kiddos already enjoy Little Spoon meals so I had a glimmer of hope that they would love these smoothies, too!

In this article, I’m going to review Little Spoon Smoothies, telling you everything you need to know about them so that you can decide if these are a smart choice for your kiddos.

Wait, Are Pouches Ok For Babies and Toddlers?

Before we dive into Little Spoon’s smoothies, which happen to come in pouches, I wanted to first speak on the debate regarding whether or not this type of meal delivery method is actually good for babies and toddlers.

There’s been some debate about whether or not pouches or packets are good for babies and toddlers to eat as it’s been said that they can interfere with your child’s motor development. While there is certainly some evidence that these claims might be true, this is typically only in cases where the child is never given a spoon or utensil to eat with.

Pouches offer a super convenient way to have meals on the go, which as parents, we all know is crucial for our schedules and our sanity. Plus, you can always choose to bring a small plastic spoon along and feed your child with the spoon by squeezing the pouch. A good mixture of using utensils to allow your child to gauge fullness and proper motor skills paired with the occasional meal or snack from a pouch is just fine!

These deliciously handy snack pouches are easy to grab and take as a healthy snack on-the-go. Little Spoon Smoothies are great for babies, toddlers, and even big kids. Heck, I even tried one for myself and enjoyed it!

These refrigerated pouches can be stored in your fridge for up to two weeks or in your freezer for up to three months. If you’re on the go, you can safely keep the pouch unrefrigerated for up to four hours.

Pros:

  • 100% organic, cold-pressed
  • Made with fresh fruits, veggies, and superfoods
  • Convenient pouch makes them perfect for on the go parents and kiddos
  • Can be stored in the refrigerator or freezer and are safe to eat for up to 4 hours at room temp
  • Delicious flavors that kids will love
  • Exposes your child to a variety of flavors, textures, and ingredients that they might not otherwise experience

Cons:

  • A little pricier than store-bought pouches at around $2.50 per smoothie
  • Children who are used to super-sweet store-bought options might need some time to get used to the natural, whole flavors in Little Spoon’s Smoothies.

Ingredient Analysis: What’s Inside?

First, I want to point out that Little Spoon is sensitive to dietary needs, so while they mostly keep their foods free of allergens, some pouches contain coconut. That said, Little Spoon offers an easy way to filter by dietary needs on their website, so if you need to stick with pouches that omit things like coconut, it’s easy to do so.

Each organic smoothie pouch contains vegetables, fruits, superfoods, and antioxidants to help fill in the nutritional gaps that your child might have. On average, the smoothies contain around 2-4g of fiber and 1-2g of protein per serving.

The flavors Little Spoon have created are designed to excite your child while still offering nutrient-dense ingredients like sunflower butter, flaxseed, chia, and more. Using unique ingredients like purple carrot and acai, your kiddo will get expose to all sorts of flavors and textures, but they won’t even know. Sneaky, I know.

But, the more important analysis in this situation might just be what’s NOT inside these smoothies. There are no:

  • Artificial sugars
  • Preservatives
  • Additives

As a parent, knowing where, how, and what’s inside the food we’re feeding our children is an immense relief. Little Spoon Smoothies are pouches that you can feel great about giving to your kids.

What Ages Are They Appropriate For?

Little Spoon Smoothies are perfect for babies, toddlers, and big kids. Although the LS team recommends using their baby blends for main mealtimes for your baby, these handy pouches are extremely convenient for on the go feedings. I know my purse has always had at least one pouch inside it at all times over the past five years that I’ve been a momma!

Little Spoon Smoothies vs. Store Bought

I’ll be the first to admit that my kids have consumed many store-bought pouches over the years. The simple, easy, affordable, and enginerred to taste good aka they are filled with sugar and sweeteners.

Of course, I have always done my best to choose the brands that stick out as healthier than others, but nothing comares to the ingredients and integrity that you’ll find with the Little Spoon Smoothies as they are 100% organic, OU-Kosher certified, and 100% non-GMO.

Do they taste as sweet and crave-worthy as the store bought packets? Probably not, but it depends on what your child is used to. If they have been raised eating healthy, fresh baby foods and meals that contain contain added sugar, these will taste like a sweet treat. On the other hand, if your child is used to the sweeter, junk-filled pouches (no shame at all!!), giving them Little Spoon Smoothies might be a bit of an adjustment for them. However, odds are, they will adapt and enjoy them!

Our Personal Experience

At the time of trying Little Spoon Smoothies, my kiddos were 3 and 5. At this point, both of my kids still enjoy pouches as an easy snack, but more so my 3 year old than my 5 year old.

When we received these smoothies, they were both really excited to give them a try. They both reported that they were tasty, especially the Strawberry Banana and Cookies + Cream. Neither of them were big fans of the Green Dream, but I expected that as, full disclosure, they don’t get a ton of greens in their diets.

Overall, Little Spoon Smoothies get two thumbs up from my kids, which is a relief for me! I’m very excited to be able to give my kids snacks that they can enjoy and I can feel great about. I love knowing that they are getting in some vital nutrients that I know they are missing from their picky diets.

Wrapping Up: Should You Try Little Spoon Smoothies?

Whether you’re brand new to the Little Spoon brand or you’ve been using their healthy, organic baby and toddler meals for years, adding their smoothies to your snack-time lineup is a no-brainer. These nutrient-dense smoothies are the perfect way to sneak in those fruits and veggies to your child’s diet without feeling the frustration, guilt, and shame that we often feel when we know our child isn’t getting enough of the good stuff.

Brands like Little Spoon are helping to take the pressure off parents by making it so easy and accessible to give your kiddos the good stuff. Most of us are busy, and crafting our own homemade meals and snacks from fresh, organic ingredients just isn’t in the cards. However, thanks to Little Spoon, we don’t have to just guiltily grab whatever pouches are lining the store shelves, we can place an order with LS and feel confident that we’re giving our children the best.
