Recently, we’ve seen a big surge of folding treadmills. Why? Lots of reasons. For starters, more people are staying at home, even working from home, and they want an easy, convenient way to get their steps in without sacrificing too much real estate.
Traditional treadmills are large, bulky, and heavy, which means that they aren’t very portable or easy to store when they’re not in use. Of course, if you have plenty of space or your own home gym (lucky you!), this isn’t a concern. But for the rest of us, we need all the space we can get and that might mean looking into folding treadmills.
Luckily, we have plenty of options these days. However, I will say that not all folding treadmills are equal and you definitely need to do your research before clicking purchase on just any old option.
Today, I’m reviewing the Joroto IW9 Pro, a smart, electric, folding treadmill that recently came onto my radar. This treadmill is a new product release for the Joroto brand, which has thousands of 5-star reviews on Amazon for their bike already, so I knew that this was worth looking into.
Smart Folding Treadmills: Why choose one?
I started to get into this in the intro, but there’s definitely been a strong shift towards home gym equipment, but diving deeper into that trend, we see that people want equipment that works for their space.
We want fitness equipment that can blend into our homes and our lives seamlessly. The last thing we want is something bulky and obtrusive that sticks out like a sore thumb or comprises our already limited space.

Store a folding treadmill under a sofa or up against a wall.
Folding treadmills have been around for a while now, but they’ve never really been synonymous with quality. Typically, if you wanted a treadmill that folded up and could be stored, you would have to sacrifice features like incline, speed, and technology. Thankfully, brands like Joroto are changing that, giving us all the features we want, but with the flexibility, we need to make it fit into our homes.
Here are a few reasons why you should consider buying a compact, folding treadmill:
What is Joroto Sports & Fitness?
If the Joroto name is new to you, join the club! I wasn’t aware of this brand either, but once I began to dig into the reviews and the available information about the brand, I was impressed.

An up and coming gym equipment company.
Joroto is a sports and fitness brand that designs and manufactures high-quality, smart, and functional home gym equipment that’s designed to help you reach your fitness goals without breaking the bank. The beautiful thing about this brand is that they’re able to bring us some very advanced products at a fraction of the cost of the big name brands. So if budget-friendly is on your treadmill buying list, then keep reading because the Joroto IW9 Pro Smart Folding Treadmill has a lot to offer.
Ok, onto the main event, as I like to say. Today, I’m bringing you my review of the Joroto IW9 Pro treadmill. This machine has all the bells and whistles but without the bulk and the lofty price tag.
This treadmill is foldable and stowable, both vertically and horizontally, which makes it super convenient for storing under a sofa or bed in addition to up against a wall. Unlike many other competitors, Joroto’s tread actually has relatively high-speed ability and includes incline functioning. Most compact treadmills omit these features to save money and to compensate for the smaller motor and reduced equipment.
Let's have a look at some of this budget treadmill's features below:

What Makes Joroto’s Treadmill Unique?
Standing out in a saturated market isn’t always easy, but Joroto definitely has some features and benefits that help them get a leg up on their competitors. Here are a few contributing factors to what makes the Joroto IW9 unique:
It’s installation-free

that’s right, no need to spend hours trying to frustratingly piece together a thousand parts, second-guessing yourself the whole time. This puppy comes out of the box ready to roll - it’s plug and play!
Large tread belt

Most compact treadmills save space by making their tread belt just big enough to accommodate a small to medium-sized human, leaving anyone with a longer stride out of the equation. Joroto made their belt large enough to accommodate most people and the weight limit exceeds expectations as well as it’s suitable for up to 260 lbs.
It folds vertically AND horizontally

I’m pretty sure that almost every treadmill these days will fold up vertically to allow you to save some space on the floor when you’re not using it, but it’s rare to see ones that also fold horizontally so that you can tuck it underneath a bed or couch.
The max speed is 9 mph

Most other foldable treadmills on the market top out somewhere around 5-7 mph, making it nearly impossible to run on. Joroto, on the other hand, allows you to go up to 9 mph, which is a sprinting speed for most folks.
It includes auto-incline levels

Incline is nearly unheard of on these machines, so to see a folding treadmill that goes all the way up to a 10% incline is very impressive! In fact, I know of plenty of standard treadmills that can’t even accomplish this feat. Add the fact that it’s an automatic incline feature and you’re made in the shade.
Easy touchscreen controls and displays

All your stats are clearly laid out digitally in front of you and changing your speed, incline, or program is as easy as tapping the screen.
Cup holders and tablet/phone holder

There are not one, but two cup holders on the console and there’s a tablet holder so that you can tune into your favorite workout app or entertainment source. I don’t know about you, but if I have my water bottle and a good workout or show cued up, I can keep at it for so much longer.

Cons - Things to Consider Before Buying the Joroto IW9 PRO Treadmill
- It's considered one of the best treadmills under $1,000, but that can still be steep for some us.
- Max user weight is 260 lbs, which is less than most home treadmills.
Joroto vs Mobvoi: Which is better?

I wanted to throw in a little comparison for you as you may have also come across the Mobvoi home treadmill in your search for a smart folding treadmill and they are very comparable. Personally, I think that both Mobvoi and Joroto are great and each serves its purpose, but they are not the same.
Mobvoi is a smaller, more compact machine. The max speed on the Mobvoi is 7 mph and there are no incline controls, both of which limit the functionality of the equipment. That said, if you’re someone who simply wants to walk on a flat surface, perhaps under your desk, then this option might be right up your alley.
For those who wish to have the ability to run and really break free a bit, Joroto is going to be the better option when compared to Mobvoi. Additionally, the inclusion of inclines really serves to elevate the experience and give folks a more challenging workout.

Reviews of Joroto Treadmill: What are customers saying?
Since this is a new treadmill, there aren’t a ton of reviews yet. However, I did find over a dozen Amazon reviews for the Joroto IW9 and I was very impressed with what I saw. So far, the vast majority of the reviews are excellent, with customers saying that the treadmill is high quality and the customer service is above average as well.
There were a few reviews that stated that there was some shipping damage incurred, but that the Joroto team was quick to resolve the issue and make it right, which is reassuring as it can feel intimidating to order a piece of gym equipment off the internet. Other than that, customers are saying that the machine is very quiet, easy to fold and store, and sturdy enough to accommodate high-speed running.
I also want to mention that Joroto has thousands of 5-star reviews for their exercise bikes, which has become a popular Peloton alternative for folks who don’t want to spend an arm and a leg. These stellar reviews make me feel confident that this is a brand that’s worthy of consideration.

The Verdict: Is the Joroto IW9 Pro Treadmill the Best Folding Tread?
Is the Joroto IW9 Pro Treadmill the best folding treadmill on the market right now? Possibly! It depends on what you’re looking for. If you’re someone who wants all the functionality of a traditional treadmill but with the convenience of being able to store it easily, then you’d be hard-pressed to find a better option than this one.
However, if you only care to walk and occasionally jog and don’t require incline, then you might consider a treadmill that’s even more compact and versatile like the Mobvoi, which is also an under-the-desk treadmill.
Overall, I think that the Joroto treadmill is the best choice for folks who want to be able to run, walk, sprint, and utilize incline functionality while still maintaining space in their home. This is hands down of the most versatile folding treadmills that I have encountered, and the price is definitely right!
