How many of you struggle to get your daily water intake? You’re not alone!

As busy women, mommas, and doers of ALL THE THINGS, it can be so easy to forget to drink water or to just not get enough in.

Speaking of which, how much is enough? There is so much information and opinions out there that it’ll make your head spin!

I was introduced to the concept of a smart water bottle a couple of months back and decided to give it a go. I chose the Hidrate Spark water bottle and have been using it for about two months now.

Does it really help you stay on track with your water intake? Is it worth the cost? Here’s my honest Hidrate Spark review.

What is a Hidrate Spark Water Bottle?

This isn’t just your average water bottle, it’s a smart water bottle. It includes lights that flash to remind you to drink more water throughout the day and it even celebrates with you when you reach your daily water intake goal.

This is possible thanks to a sensor that’s located inside the bottle that automatically tracks how much water you have drunk and sends that information right to an app on your phone through Bluetooth technology.

The Hidrate app is available for both iOS and Android and can even integrate with most of the popular fitness trackers like your Apple Watch, Fitbit, Google Fit, and more.

The bottle itself holds 24 ounces of water and is made of BPA-Free Tritan Plastic that’s super tough and durable. There’s a flip-top enclosure and a wide mouth spout for drinking and there are six different colors to choose from - all of which are beautiful. This bottle definitely has a high-end look and feel to it.

The bottle has a somewhat grippy texture to it, so it feels secure in your hands. It’s small enough to stash in your gym bag or purse, yet big enough that you don’t need to make constant trips to the kitchen to refill it.

The cap is very secure, I’ve yet to have any issues with it leaking. And you can toss it in the dishwasher (sans the sensor which can be hand-washed) to clean it or the fridge to keep it cool without harming the sensor in any way.

How Does it Work?

In order to properly calculate and track your daily water consumption, you have to first identify your personalized hydration goal. The app allows you to do this by entering pertinent information like your environment, altitude, age, height/weight, and sex to get your unique hydration level.

For reference, when I entered my information, it created a goal for me of between 70-80 ounces per day, so around 9-10 8 oz. glasses per day. This was pretty accurate for me as I consistently drink a lot of water and feel that my body needs a bit more than average, especially on days with heavy workouts.

As far as tracking goes, the sensor is on a stick which is powered by two small batteries. When you take a drink out of your bottle, the sensor will measure how much you drank and will then send that information to the app, assuming that you’re connected to it through Bluetooth.

When it’s time for you to drink more water, a soft light will appear on the outside of your bottle to gently remind you. The light isn’t intrusive at all, in fact, it’s rather pretty.

All the data and information gets stored in your app and is available for you to review at any time, which I find to be helpful. I also like that you have the ability to adjust or set your own goal. For example, I found that after a month or so my body was really used to the extra water and actually craved more, so I manually upped my intake level so I could continue to progress and have it all tracked.

Who’s The Company Behind This Smart Water Bottle?

At Fit Healthy Momma, we love supporting brands that have a good mission or story, it just makes them more relatable, am I right?

HidrateSpark was created in 2014 by Coleman Iverson and Alex Hambrock out of a passion for helping people lead a healthier life and make establishing healthy habits easier.

According to their website, the founder’s close friend became ill and it was discovered that the cause was dehydration. From that day on, they decided that there has to be an easier, more efficient way for people to ensure proper hydration.

Co-founder Coleman Iverson stated he wanted to “make drinking water cool. You can sip, track, monitor how much you need and see the progress. The result: your cognitive, physical and emotional health increases. It’s simple: a hydrated person is healthier and more productive, at work and at home.”

This simple mission has grown immensely over the past six years. Today, HidrateSpark powers research studies at hospitals like the Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic, and more. This innovative water bottle has also attracted the attention of much of the big fish in the healthcare industry who know that hydration is a vital element of overall health and wellness.

How Much Does it Cost?

Each water bottle costs $59.95, and yes, that feels expensive for a water bottle. But keep in mind that the bottle includes the app and the sensor which will help keep you on track with your hydration. As with any technology, there’s always a higher price tag.

I reached out to the HidrateSpark team and they generously sent me a coupon code to share with my readers! Use code "FITMOMMA5" to get $5 off your purchase of a Hidrate Spark 3.

There’s also a fee for shipping unless you spend $75 or more. So, if you have a friend or family member that you think would benefit from this, I’d grab two at once to get the free shipping deal. They make great, unique gifts! I gifted one to my mom who I always struggle to buy for and she loves it!

Hidrate Spark FAQs

Q: Where to buy Hidrate Spark Water Bottles?

A: The best place to snag yourself one of these bottles is to visit their website and buy from there to ensure that you’re getting the real product and not a knock off or imitation.

Q: Do I need to charge the battery?

A: Nope! The sensor is powered by two CR2032 batteries like the ones you’ll find inside a watch. So when your batteries die, you’ll simply need to get two more and switch them out. I don’t have any personal experience with this yet as mine are still going strong.

Q: Is the app easy to use?

A: Yes, it’s very simple and user-friendly. As soon as you sync your sensor up with your app, you’ll begin seeing all your stats clearly and easily and you’ll find that it’s very easy to navigate, too.

Q: Can I use any other liquids in the bottle?

A: Technically, yes, but it’s not the best idea. Adding anything other than pure water to your bottle will increase the chances of damaging the sensor stick, so stick to H20!

Q: Is there a return policy?

A: Yes, if for some reason your bottle isn’t working correctly, you can email their support team at [email protected] within the first 100 days of purchase and they will work with you to correct the problem or replace your bottle.

Alternatives Compared to Hidrate

The best Hidrate water bottle alternative is the LARQ self-cleaning water bottle. LARQ packs a powerful punch, as their PureVis technology neutralizes bacteria, helping you stay safe from harmful bacteria such as E. Coli.

You can connect your LARQ bottle to your Apple Watch as it is a "smart" water bottle. Overall, it's a better value and more powerful than Hidrate. Plus we love how it protects us from bacteria.

Should You Give It a Try?

Choosing whether or not to purchase this water bottle is highly specific to you, your needs, and your goals. If you feel that you’re not getting in enough water each day and that you could use a kick in the pants so to speak, this bottle will give you just (in a gentler, prettier way).

I personally didn’t think I had a water intake issue, however, there are many moments throughout my day that I’ll catch my bottle glowing and realize that I’ve been working or playing with the kids for hours and have completely neglected my hydration.

I’ll also say that since committing to using this bottle, I’ve noticed a difference in both my mental clarity as well as my appetite - when I am consuming enough water, I’m not as likely to reach for a snack.
