Tami, from Fit Healthy Momma rates the freeletics workout app after using it for 30 days.

Fit Healthy Momma Rating: 9.1/10 ⭐

Freeletics delivers good workout programs that you can do virtually anywhere, anytime. The app is smooth and is super user friendly. So far, I like the workouts.

If you’ve recently found yourself working out from home or you’re just starting out on a fitness journey, then the thought of purchasing a bunch of equipment to help foster your success is nerve-wracking. After all, the average cost to supply a home gym is around $2000, which can be daunting to think of.

Luckily, you don’t have to let the cost of fitness stop you from reaching your goals. There are tons of fitness apps out there that are designed to allow you to workout anywhere, anytime, and Freeletics is one that’s gaining huge popularity. Speaking of popular fitness apps, I just wrote a review of MyCurves On Demand, which is also great for on the go workouts. And, if you're looking for the best strength training app, check out Fitbod's strength training app (if you like it use this link for 25% off).

Freeletics offers AI digital coaching and bodyweight + weights (they just added "Freeletics, now with weights") programming that’s perfect for those who don’t have access to the gym or don’t want to spend thousands supplying their home with workout equipment. So, with the updated weights workouts, if you have weights, this could be a great fit for you (so can Fitbod). It all depends what you're looking for.

Is this the best training app? Let’s dive into my review of Freeletics to get all the details that will allow you to make that decision for yourself.

Introducing Freeletics Workout App

the freeletics workout app

Freeletics is a training app that uses bodyweight only as the core foundation, however, they do also offer complete training programs that require equipment. This system combines HIIT (high-intensity interval training) with HIT (high-intensity training) to create personalized programming that’s designed to help you reach your fitness goals.

The company was founded in 2013 with a mission to disrupt the fitness world as we knew it. They wanted to challenge the notion that you need a personal trainer and a fully loaded gym to be able to accomplish your fitness and health goals.

The Freeletics founders want to challenge and inspire their customers to become the greatest version of themselves, both physically and mentally. As a result of this mission, the app and programming have evolved over the years, becoming a holistic, personalized solution for anyone who is looking to achieve lifelong changes in their body and their overall wellbeing.

Today, Freeletics is used by over 51 million people who are looking to improve their body and their mind. With the use of personalized, AI-powered fitness and mindset coaching, the brand is helping people everywhere to build lifelong healthy habits while reaching their personal health and fitness goals.

The app includes personalized workout plans, nutrition coaching, audio courses, and additional motivational and educational content that helps create a well-rounded, holistic health and wellness plan.

What Are the Freeletics Workout Plans?

choosing freeletics workout plan

Had to get a Euros pic in there!

There are a couple of different ways that you can get started with Freeletics, you can first use their free app and then move onto getting a “coach”. While you can certainly benefit from the free version, the AI-powered coaching is where the real value is at. Next, I’ll breakdown what you can expect from the programming.

The Free Version

You can use this app for free, and I do recommend that you take a look at it and try it out before committing to a membership, but you’re going to get the most value out of the paid version and the AI coaching.

That said, in the free version you have access to hundreds of workout variations that cover all areas of your body. So, you can certainly get a good workout in and do so without any equipment if you don’t have access to any.

Within the free workouts, you have options to customize your experience by choosing their standard option, endurance, or strength, depending on your goal.

Their most popular workouts are the ones named of Greek Mythology like Athena, Morpheus, and Prometheus. They also offer mindset coaching (this is a cool, new feature!), single exercises, warmups, cooldowns, and running workouts.

No matter what type of workout you choose, you can expect a video demonstration to show you the movement, as well as the option to read the instructions and cues for proper form, which makes this app very easy to use and understand.

Upgrading to Personalized, AI-Training

Once you’ve gotten a feel for the type of workouts you can expect and the format in which they offer them, you’ll likely be tempted to upgrade to the paid version of the app so that you can take advantage of the personalized training and coaching.

Using AI, the app is able to coach you through your program, making adjustments and recommendations based on your feedback and progress. It’s the next thing to having a personal trainer in your living room!

Freeletics takes all the guesswork out of working out by giving you an effective program and then helping you progress through it safely and efficiently. With a digital coach, you can train smarter, not harder.

Benefits of The Freeletics Workout Training App

Freeletics User Reviews

Final Thoughts: Is Freeletics Legit?

After doing a ton of research, including downloading the Freeletics app and trying it out for myself, I can confidently say that this is indeed a legitimate fitness training app and one that’s well worth the small investment required.

wondering if freeletics is legit with worth it text

An app that provides a lot of versatility and it's growing very well - it's a legit app for sure.

I love that the premise of the app is based on bodyweight exercises as so many people don’t have the means to supply their homes with a ton of fitness equipment. Freeletics is teaching us that we can effectively workout from home using just our bodies.

I also love that they have included a ton of features that encourage total body wellness. From their mindset coaching to their adaptive workouts that allow you to switch up your routine based on how your feeling or what your current situation is, they’re creating an atmosphere of creating a long-term healthy, sustainable lifestyle.

If you’re looking for a home fitness app that’s going to keep you motivated and help you reach your fitness goals, then I highly recommend checking out Freeletics. Download the app for free and explore what they have to offer. If you like it, go ahead and purchase a membership!

Can You Build Muscle and Lose Fat With Bodyweight Only Training?

building muscle workouts

Before we dive into the review, let’s first address this very valid question. The top two goals of any fitness regime are to build muscle and lose fat.

So the question becomes, can you build muscle without access to weights, and can you lose fat without spending hours on a cardio machine? The answer to both questions is yes.

The key to building muscle is challenging your muscle, which can be accomplished in various ways, including using only your bodyweight. And the key to fat loss is to increase your heart rate, which again, can be accomplished without any equipment.

Benefits of Bodyweight Only Exercise

bodyweight workout benefits freeletics

Not only can you build muscle and lose weight, but there are additional benefits you’ll reap by focusing on your bodyweight only, including:

You can perform compound movements correctly

Without the added strain of resistance, you can perform compound movements while focusing on your form, which is the most effective and safest way to execute exercises.

You can work multiple muscles and joints at the same time

Without the addition of weight, you’re able to perform compound movements that work more than one body part/muscle group at a time, which can actually increase your heart rate and help shed fat, too.

You get the opportunity to work smaller muscles

This is particularly true for stabilizing exercises like bird dogs, planks, and unilateral movements. You’ll recruit some of the smaller muscles that you might not when you add in weights.

It helps build balance and mobility

The best way to build balance and mobility in your body is to perform movements that include just the weight of your body, allowing you to get a feel for your own body without the introduction of equipment that will throw off your equilibrium
