Both of these products are popular fiber supplements. This recent surge in interest in fiber supplements has me excited because fiber plays a vital role in gut health, proper digestion, and overall health. That's why I felt obligated to chime in with my opinions on Colon Broom and Benefiber for those of you who are trying to find the best fiber product out there today. Let's jump right into it

Benefiber is a popular plant-based prebiotic dietary fiber supplement. As a prebiotic product, Benefiber does not actually introduce probiotic strains into your gut. It instead feeds your existing healthy gut bacteria for growth. The goal is always to have your good bacteria outnumber your bad bacteria. While the Benefiber lineup does include Benefiber Healthy Shape, Benefiber Advanced Digestive Health Prebiotic Fiber + Probiotic, Benefiber Prebiotic Fiber + Probiotics Gummies, and Benefiber Chewables, I am only focusing on the original Benefiber for the purpose of this review.

Each 4-gram serving of Benefiber balances 3 grams of dietary fiber with 3 grams of soluble fiber. You simply stir Benefiber into 4 ounces to 8 ounces of your preferred hot or cold beverage three times daily. This sugar-free formula contains just 2 grams of carbohydrates per serving.

Formula and Ingredients

Benefiber is composed entirely of wheat dextrin. That makes it both a gluten-free and sugar-free supplement. What is wheat dextrin? Dextrin is something you're probably already consuming on a daily basis. It's a hydrolyzed starch made from wheat, corn, potato, rice, tapioca, or arrowroot that is commonly used as a thickening agent for baby food, soups, sauces, and candies. It's liked by food manufacturers because it thickens food without adding calories or sugar. Benefiber exclusively uses wheat dextrin that has been created by extracting wheat fiber from gluten. According to researchers, wheat dextrin is a water-soluble fiber that's credited with helping to reduce cholesterol levels, boosting immune function, improving mineral absorption, and reducing body fat.

What I Like

I like the simplicity of Benefiber. It's a high-quality, clean product that's affordable and accessible. I love that it's naturally free of sugar and gluten. I think you're really going to appreciate Benefiber if you prefer supplements that "disappear" into your beverages. Don't confuse Benefiber for those orange fiber mixtures that create a lumpy, chalky mess in your cup. Benefiber stirs into drinks seamlessly. You won't even know it's there. I also like that it works with both hot and cold beverages. You can seriously just stir your daily Benefiber into your morning coffee to get the job done quickly.

What I Don't Like

While Benefiber is great for helping you to increase your daily fiber intake, it doesn't exactly go "above and beyond" for gut health. Yes, I think this is a great option for someone who simply wants to be proactive about gut health. However, I'm not sure that this supplement goes far enough if you're already dealing with severe symptoms caused by a gut imbalance that was allowed to linger because your good bacteria became overpowered by bad bacteria. I'm also a little hung up on the fact that you're expected to take three servings per day in order to see optimal results. As a nutritionist, I know how difficult it can be to remember to take a supplement just once per day. Trying to pack in all of your servings at once won't work because consuming that much fiber directly without spreading it out is a recipe for cramping and bloating.

What Could Be Improved

There's not much I would change about Benefiber because I think it already offers what many people who are seeking a healthier gut need. This is one of the best ways to increase your prebiotic intake. As I mentioned earlier, I do wish there was a way that the brand could formulate this product to eliminate the need for three daily servings. My last note on Benefiber is that this won't be for you if you're looking for a "sweet" powder that entices you to keep sipping. This is a clear, flavorless product that fully dissolves into your beverage. I would say that it's worth looking for a product that's already flavored if you feel that you'll get into a habit of drinking your Benefiber with a sugary, calorie-filled beverage.

Colon Broom is getting lots of attention for being a boutique-meets-science supplement for digestive health. While the name may come across as a bit abrasive, Colon Broom is a gentle, natural product that helps to get your gut back in balance. However, its name does refer to the fact that Colon Broom definitely gets things moving within your gastrointestinal tract. That's why it's one of my top picks if you're constantly struggling with the discomfort and inconvenience of constipation. Colon Broom is marketed as a supplement for body detoxification, weight loss, and improved overall health.

Formula and Ingredients

Colon Broom's prebiotic power comes in the form of psyllium husk derived from the outer layer of psyllium seeds. What I Like

Colon Broom gives you results you can definitely feel. Don't be surprised if you actually start feeling noticeably lighter just a few days after starting Colon Broom. The reason why this product provides more dramatic results when compared to other products is that it uses a type of fiber that is considered a gentle, bulk-forming laxative. It's able pass through your digestive system by becoming a viscous compound without being completely broken down or absorbed.

What I Don't Like

I generally like Colon Broom. However, the extra ingredients that give it a bolder flavor and consistency do detract just slightly from its "clean" factor. You may not feel like Colon Broom is a good fit if you dislike the taste of stevia. However, I will say that the built-in fruit flavor in Colon Broom may help you to avoid the need to take your daily fiber supplement with juice that's full of calories and sugar.

What Could Be Improved

There's not much that I would change about Colon Broom. I do have a suggestion on flavor that I wish the company would consider. While the strawberry flavor tastes great with water, it would be great to have some kind of chocolate, caramel, or mint option that can be added to coffee.

Both Benefiber and Colon Broom offer a nearly even split between dietary fiber and soluble fiber. However, Benefiber's ability to offer 3 grams for both types of fiber is slightly more impressive than Colon Broom's decision to reduce soluble fiber to 2 grams instead of matching the 3 grams of dietary fiber. Both are also free of gluten and sugar. While these two products actually accomplish many of the same things, the similarities regarding how they do what they do end there.

Comparing Cost and Overall Value

Benefiber is definitely the budget pick between the two supplements. You can pick up a bottle with 62 servings for as low as $12. However, prices may vary based on your location. Colon Broom is in a much different sphere when it comes to price. Don't be shocked by the high price when I tell you how much one bottle of Colon Broom costs. I'll explain how that price can come down dramatically as I go forward.

My takeaway after reading real customer reviews was that people were starting to feel lighter almost immediately during the days and weeks after taking Colon Broom for the first time. I'll say for a final time that you're looking at a choice between flavorless, odorless Benefiber and strawberry-flavored Colon Broom.

Which Is Better: Colon Broom or Benefiber?

As a nutritionist, I can't say anything bad about either product. Both deliver high-quality fiber sources that are going to help your gut stay nourished. I can tell you that anyone who is suffering from bloating, sluggish digestion, or an imbalanced gut is going to be in a much better place after taking either supplement.
