I think the title is introduction enough for this post! A cookie dough protein shake has been a long-requested recipe that we finally perfected enough to share. After we shared our delicious cinnamon roll protein shake and the chocolate mint protein shake, we've been asked to make more protein shakes that help you look forward to your new (and super healthy) after dinner dessert!

If you love chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream, then you’re going to love this cookie dough protein bowl. It has all of the elements that you love about cookie dough ice cream – cold, creamy, sweet, salty, gooey – but with a lot more protein and a lot less fat. Hey, sometimes the “cookie” fits and sometimes it doesn’t. When cookie dough ice cream doesn’t fit in your meal plan, swapping in this chocolate chip cookie dough protein shake is the next best thing.

3 Reasons Why You’ll Love This Macro Friendly Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Protein Shake Recipe

I could easily think of at least 10 reasons why you’ll love this recipe, but let’s focus on the top 3:

  1. Healthy, protein-packed cookie dough is always a good idea, in my opinion. Cookie dough feels like such an indulgence, and when you can enjoy it completely guilt-free it’s a major win.
  2. The ingredients in this recipe are minimal. Assuming that you have a good protein powder on hand, the recipe itself is surprisingly minimal to get that sweet & salty cookie dough flavor.
  3. It’s packed with protein. If you’re like me, you’re always looking for ways to get that protein in, and this chocolate chip cookie dough shake takes care of that. With 24g of satiating protein per serving, this shake not only tastes great but will help you secure your protein goal for the day, too!

Ingredients

ingredients for chocolate chip cookie dough protein shake
  • Vanilla protein powder – I prefer 1st Phorm Level-1 or Clean Simple Eats (Code TAMI)
  • 3/4 Cup of Unsweetened Almond Milk
  • 12 Ice Cubes
  • Xanthan gum – used to thicken your shake
  • Cashew butter – the perfect nut butter to enhance the cookie dough flavor
  • Vanilla extract
  • Edible chocolate chip cookie dough – I got mine from Kroger
  • Mini chocolate chips
  • Sea salt

How to Make Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Protein Shake

  1. Add ice and Almond Milk to blender cup followed by protein powder, xantham gum, vanilla extract, and cashew butter.
  2. Place the top of your blender, give your blender cup a good shake and place on the blender for about 30 seconds, or until all the ingredients are well blended and smooth.
  3. Remove the blender cup top and scrape your protein shake into a bowl (it should be THICK & creamy!).
  4. Top your shake with mini chocolate chips, chunks of edible cookie dough, and a sprinkle of sea salt.
  5. Grab a spoon and dig in!

Swaps or Alternatives

Protein powder – I used vanilla protein powder in this recipe, however, a chocolate protein powder would be amazing as well. The protein powders that I use most are whey, but plant-based protein would do great in this recipe, too. Clean Simple Eats and 1st Phorm have vegan protein options.

Cashew butter – I find that cashew butter has the perfect mild, slightly nutty flavor to curate that cookie dough taste we’re looking for, but you can substitute peanut butter or almond butter if you don’t have cashew butter on hand. Just keep in mind that this will change the flavor of the shake a bit.

Edible cookie dough – I used a tub of edible cookie dough from Kroger that required that I scoop out the dough and make my own balls, however, there are plenty of edible cookie dough options that are pre-balled – either works great! If you can’t find any edible cookie dough, a crumbled-up baked chocolate chip cookie will do well in its place.

Quick Tip

Be sure when you’re looking for edible cookie dough for the topping that it clearly states that you can eat the dough raw. A regular tub or sleeve of cookie dough that requires baking before it’s edible could be dangerous when consumed raw.
