Bellefit Postpartum Girdle and Corsets Review Guide

By Tami Smith

Are you thinking of trying a postpartum corset? When I was pregnant with my second baby, I started noticing many of my favorite Instagrammers wearing girdles and/or purchasing one to wear for after the delivery of their baby.

Naturally, I was influenced and decided to buy one, too. I purchased a corset from Bellefit after doing some research into the brand and its products.

You can get a postpartum girdle just about anywhere these days, but what I loved most about this brand is that they’re a woman-owned company and they’re dedicated to making garments that are designed to make the post-birth period easier and more comfortable - something that I am very passionate about!

When I wore this corset, I purchased it on my own and I was not gifted anything in exchange for a review. Here’s my honest Bellefit review.

What’s Bellefit's Story?

Every good brand has a story, right? Bellefit was founded back in 2008 by parents Cynthia & V.Alfonso Suarez. The company was started out of their home when they realized that there was a need for better support for women recovering from birth, vaginal, and C-section.

In fact, the main catalyst for their brand came out of a desire to help their daughter to recover from the three consecutive C-sections she had with her three children.

They set out to design a garment that could assist mothers with faster recovery and to reduce pain and discomfort. While some women recover from birth with ease, others suffer from back pain, diastasis recti, and pain around their C-section scar.

Their mission statement is simple and I couldn’t agree with it more: “New moms need support, our mission is to provide real support & confidence to women after they give birth.”

How Does it Work?

The postpartum garments have medical-grade compression and support that provide a variety of benefits to recovering mommas. Here are some of the top benefits of these girdles:

  • Help reduce pregnancy-related excess weight and bloating
  • Provides safe support and compression to your abdominal and lumbar regions
  • Supports and improves your posture
  • Relieves back pain
  • Helps to speed up after birth recovery
  • Increases mobility
  • Provides support for C-section incision
  • Helps correct abdominal gapping post-delivery (diastasis recti)
  • Assists in releasing fluids accumulated during pregnancy
  • Reduces swelling
  • Minimizes postpartum cramping

Essentially, wearing one of these helps you to move about, care for your baby, and breastfeed more naturally and without pain. These benefits can help new moms to navigate their “new normal” a bit more easily and put them in a better state, both physically and emotionally.

For any mommas who have been through a postpartum period already, you know how important feeling good is! When you’re able to recover easily, your mind and body feel more at ease and you can focus your attention on your new baby, not on the pain and discomfort.

Corset Features

Bellefit has a number of girdles to choose from. I purchased their Bellefit Corset, the original design. Here are the features of this design that I used:

  • Three front row closures to adjust the tightness
  • Compression panels that control and tighten the tummy
  • Integrated back support panels that stabilize and ease back pain
  • Medical-grade protection for C-section incision
  • Inner spinal boning that shapes curves and prevents rolling
  • Crotch opening with 3 rows of adjustable hooks to accommodate thick pads
  • Breathable compression fabric
  • Helps hide back bulge and smooth muffin tops
  • Full coverage with minimal panty lines

They also have the following styles to choose from:

  • Corset
  • Dual Closure Girdle
  • Cheekster Corset
  • Bodysuit Corset
  • Corset Thong
  • Girdle With Front Zipper
  • Girdle With Side Zipper
  • Girdle Pull Up

Does it Work?

It did for me! With my first pregnancy, I didn’t wear anything for support during my postpartum phase and I suffered from back pain, poor posture, and serious core instability. So when I purchased a corset from Bellefit I was hopeful that it would help me to not relive those problems the second time around - and I can honestly say that it did.

I felt like my body was kind of put back in place quicker this time if that makes sense. In fact, when I went to my postpartum checkup at two weeks post-delivery, my doctor was so impressed by how my uterus was already back in place.

Honestly, the biggest benefit I felt was just feeling more like myself again. I didn’t feel like I needed to walk around trying to “suck it in,” nor did I feel like I was just hanging out all over the place.

How Does it Feel?

It’s tight, there’s no doubt about that. But it’s not uncomfortably so. It’s definitely something that you get used to. The most important thing when it comes to how it feels and fits is getting the sizing right, I’ll talk more about that below.

How Long Do You Wear It?

The brand recommends that you wear it anywhere from 12-24 hours per day. Personally, I usually wore mine for about 8-10. I would put it on after my workout and after I took a shower and then just keep it on all day until bedtime.

I know a lot of ladies swear by wearing them while they sleep, however, I never tried that as I assumed it would be a tad uncomfortable.

And then as far as how long you wear it throughout your postpartum journey, the choice is yours. Bellefit’s website says that it’s safe to wear up to 120 postpartum. I wore mine consistently for at least the first two months and then more intermittently for the third month.

By the time I was 3 months PP, I felt that things were shifting more towards “normal” and I had progressed through the size settings.

Wrapping Up

Since using this product a little over a year ago, I’ve probably told at least 6 pregnant girlfriends that they need to put it on their must-have list for postpartum recovery (that and a stock of this).

If you have any questions at all about any of their products or sizing, their FAQ page covers just about everything. But again, don’t hesitate to reach out to them directly. They’re are fabulous and so willing to help!
